Publisher's summary

A brilliant meditation on mental health in the modern world; alienation and mental health; ways to overcome "the insane society"; a comprehensive analysis of prevailing concepts of mental health against Fromm's views on overcoming destructive narcissism and social determinants of mental health; and a look at humankind's alleged passivity in relation to dreams, child development, and psychology.

insightful

Insightful, robust, full spectrum. Typical of Fromm. He is an analyst "par excellance". I might add that he is prophetic as many of his suggestions have been realized today. In many cases that is unfortunate. Hard to believe his writings are so old, as they are most relevant. He speaks to us now.

Beautiful

Fromm not only demonstrates the impact of social narrative, and its negative effects, but does it in an ordered fashion that one rarely sees.
Brilliant, this book was ahead of the age it was written in. Fromm was an observer of life, and then crafted an amazing example of the human condition.
