Publisher's Summary

The Arbinger Institute has helped millions with their books Leadership and Self-Deception and The Anatomy of Peace. Their newest book, The Outward Mindset, reflects their latest research and experience and offers a new and intuitive way to teach people how to implement mindset change in themselves and scale it across organizations, with incredible effect.

One's mindset governs how one views the world, what one does, and how one does it. One's mindset can be self-focused, which Arbinger calls an inward mindset, or it can be inclusive of others, which Arbinger calls an outward mindset. It turns out that our own actions, and others responses to those actions, end up being dramatically different depending on which mindset we are operating from.

The Outward Mindset teaches listeners how to shift more fully to an outward mindset and how to help others, even whole organizations, to make that shift - a shift that sparks innovation, increases accountability, and transforms collaboration, engagement, and fulfillment.

Eye-opener!

It was so refreshing to hear and learn about having an outward mindset, and the incredible results that one can achieve by implementing it every day. This is a new concept for me, but it resonates so well within me. I highly recommend this book to anyone who desires to live a fuller life, achieve better results, or see the world in a better light.

Must read for those that want do things different

This book really helped me to look at things differently, especially at work. I highly recommended this book to my co-workers and the interns that I have worked with. Whenever I start to get stuck in one way of thinking, I pull this book out again to refresh my mindset and open my eyes and ears to hear/see what is actually being said.

Fantastic listen!!

This book is a fantastic asset to any leader, at any level. It is so important to have an outward mindset to build a happy environment around you and to build respect within your workplace. I think this is a great reminder to some who have forgotten what it is like to be at the bottom of an organization or what it is like to struggle with interdepartmental relationships. I will be gifting this book every time someone is promoted in my organization. Thanks!!

A fitting 'sequel' to Arbinger's previous books.

Even though it can be read on its own, I'm glad I read "Leadership and Self Deception" and the "Anatomy of Peace" first.

Together they form a formidable trilogy in which each volume consolidates and builds on the previous one.

Definitely worth a read and a reread with pen and paper for personal notes to help apply the material to one's own circumstances.

If you're human, read it! It will help.

I especially liked the first several chapters, but the whole book was great. I totally agree with the philosophy that the authors presented.

Not as good as their others but still valuable

If you've read Leadership & Self-Deception, Peacegiver, Bonds That Makes Us Free, etc. then a lot of the content in the book won't be new. If you haven't read those, this is as good a place to start as any. In some ways, I think in this book they've improved some ways to share the content. Like Leadership and Self-Deception, this book will help the reader walk away with a new vocabulary around the topic and new insights about human behavior and how we're "doing it wrong".

I recommend the book.

See diagram 16

I found it enjoyable and a good trigger for some personal reflection, although the repeated references to numbered diagrams interrupted the flow.
