“The Outsiders transformed young-adult fiction.”—The New York Times
“This remarkable novel gives a moving, credible view of the outsiders from the inside. . . . A book with a powerful message.”—The Horn Book
“Stay gold, Ponyboy.”
No one ever said life was easy. But Ponyboy is pretty sure that he's got things figured out. He knows that he can count on his brothers, Darry and Sodapop. And he knows that he can count on his friends—true friends who would do anything for him, like Johnny and Two-Bit. But not on much else besides trouble with the Socs, a vicious gang of rich kids whose idea of a good time is beating up on “greasers” like Ponyboy. At least he knows what to expect—until the night someone takes things too far.
The Outsiders is a dramatic and enduring work of young adult fiction that laid the groundwork for the genre. S. E. Hinton’s classic novel of a boy who finds himself on the outskirts of regular society remains as powerful today as it was the day it was first published.

Featured Article: The top 100 classics of all time
Before we whipped out our old high school syllabi and dug deep into our libraries to start selecting contenders for this list, we first had to answer the question, "How do we define a classic?" The answer isn’t as straightforward as you might guess, though there’s a lot to be said for the old adage, "You know it when you see it" (or, in this case, hear it). Of course, most critically, each of our picks had to be fabulous in audio. So dust off your aspirational listening list—we have some amazing additions you don’t want to miss.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would....I read this several times when I was a young girl...and saw the movie so many times...listening to this after 30 years was a real treat! What other book might you compare The Outsiders to and why?
you cant compare this one....it is a classic...Have you listened to any of Jim Fyfe’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, but I would...If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
They did...and it is and always will be a true classic!Any additional comments?
This touched my heart just as much now as it did when I was 12yrs old..I had such a crush on Ponyboy Curtis, and posters of the character all over my room..I saw the movie at the drive in like 10 times and rented it on VHS every chance I got...Listening as an adult, I see a book about a boy with a golden heart...a story of survival, a beautifully tragic tale of friendship...and I loved it!!!!STAY GOLD PONYBOY...STAY GOLD!!!
