Publisher's summary

The galaxy is burning. The Emperor's loyal primarchs prepare to do battle with Warmaster Horus and his turncoat Legions on the black sand of Isstvan.

Such dark times herald new and yet more terrible things still to come, and when Astropath Kai Zulane unwittingly learns a secret that threatens to tip the balance of the war, he is forced to flee for his life. Alongside a mysterious band of renegades, he plunges into the deadly underworld of Terra itself, hunted like a criminal by those he once trusted. In the face of betrayal, Kai must decide where his own loyalties lie and whether some truths should be buried forever.

Omg that was awesome

Got to be my favorite book in the series so far. Really got you attached to traitors, and made you feel for them. It’s becoming more clear why so many decided to betray the emperor and side with their primarchs. Such a good book. WORTH THE LISTEN!!!!!

Slow start great finish

The start of the book was rough at times to get through as it was a lot of setup of characters and setting. Normally I don’t mind this but there were a good chunk of the characters that didn’t feel necessary. The ending was phenomenal and the last quarter of the book was great. Still really enjoyed the whole read regardless

Some Truths are not worth knowing

I don't share the opinion necessarily but this was so dark of a truth that it had to be done this way. Loved the voice acting as always. Well written.

weak custodes

loved the story but they made the custodians so weak that even unarmored astartes could kill one.

One of the best

I went into this story blind. I only saw it was set on Terra. from the way it starts I figured it'd be another chore to get through, but it quickly introduced one of the most wonderful cast of characters in the heresy. Once into the story the pacing is excellent and Johnathan Keeble is always a win. When choosing your way through navigating the heresy, don't miss this one.

fun but flawed

good flow and pacing but a couple of moments really broke immersion for me. The more you know about Warhammer 40k lore the worse some aspects of this book will stand out.

Unimportant, but a great story

You definitely get attached to the characters and want to see how they all figure out the issue at hand. So far this book has one of the most in-depth interaction with The Emperor out of any book so far, and it was probably the most memorable part. Overall, a good listen, but doesn't do much in the grand scheme of things.

Surprisingly great

Kind of felt like we were off the beaten path a bit, with the astropaths… but turned out to be an amazing book, where I was glued to it to hear what happened next. Well done!
