Publisher's summary

Experience three exciting stories of fantasy and science fiction, each immensely different from the last.

"Feral" - Deep in the heart of Africa, a remote tribe harbors a terrifying secret. Descendants of an ancient predator, the villagers share an ability known as the Change, allowing them to take on the form of a deadly beast. The adults have full control over their powers, but the children remain wild and untamed. When a little girl escapes, consumed by her instincts, it is up to Bo to hunt her down and bring her home. Can he stop her before she makes her way to the nearby human village...or will the fragile peace between the two tribes shatter into war?

"The Other Side of Nowhere" - In a hospital in Georgia, a young farmer named Johnny Abram struggles to stay alive. Between the waking moments on an operating table and a series of vivid dreams, he sees his life flash before his eyes. For a while, he isn't sure which reality is real, but when a mysterious door suddenly appears and beckons him, the dream quickly becomes a nightmare, and the real battle for his life begins.

"Meeting Jonah" - Dr. James Harper never expected to be psychoanalyzing the first living machine, but life is full of surprises. That's exactly what Jonah, the first level-7 AI, is - a surprise. He's brilliant, gentle, and more than the sum of his parts. But what happens when the men in white coats decide to end their little experiment? Will James sit by and watch as a sentient, thinking being is put to rest...or will he take a stand?

Jonah is my favorite

These are three wonderful short stories by author J N Chaney.

Feral - is about a tribe in Africa that has transfiguration abilities, only when they are young they can not control the ability to well and if they can into, say a predatory animal, well that is not so good for the other normal tribes around them. So how do the elders deal with it? Read the story and find out.

The Other Side of Nowhere - is about a patient in a hospital struggling to stay alive, and his life flashes before his eyes, but there is a side door. Is it a dream or a nightmare? Read the story and find out.

Lastly my favorite story is Jonah - it is about a doctor that is brought in to psychoanalyze the first living machine, Jonah. But what happens when the makers want to put a end to this gentle, genius, awesome, caring AI? Well a doctors first duty is to do no harm, but how can he do his job with a computer? Read the story and find out, you won't be disappointed. All of these stories are awesome I hope you love them as much as I do, they all have action, suspense, and some twists and turns to them, that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Audiobook narrator Raina Marie tells these stories well although listen carefully for the story breaks or you might be a bit confused for a few seconds as she tends to very quickly.

Unique short stories

An interesting collection of short stories that capture the imagination and draw you into a variety of worlds. From an intriguing AI, to a rouge shifter and a pre-death void experience, these unique stories leave you wanting more of each story. The narrator in the audiobook did a good job of changing her voice to delineate each story and character. I especially liked how she did Jonah, managing to show both his sentience and his robotics at the same time. These are quick entertaining stories that could each easily be the base of a full novel. I received the audiobook in exchange for my honest opinion.

fun stories

Some nice short stories here. Quick and fun listen. Narrator does a good job and has a soothing voice. I love listening to audiobooks at night to relax and she has great voice for this. Sometimes distinguishing between voices and narration was a bit difficult, but still a good narrator.

Three thought provoking stories

Any additional comments?

I listened to these three short stories and found each of them uniquely thought-provoking. They were enjoyable; however, they all had that mysterious, what-just-happened, type of ending that doesn't quite leave a listener feeling fulfilled.

I loved that they were the perfect length for listening start-to-finish on longer commutes.

The narration was fine - but audio production needs to work on adding appropriate silent spaces between scenes and stories.
