Publisher's Summary

From the acclaimed author of The Haunting of Maddy Clare comes another spellbinding ghost story set in 1920s England.

London, 1925. Glamorous medium Gloria Sutter made her fortune helping the bereaved contact loved ones killed during the Great War. Now she's been murdered at one of her own séances, after leaving a final message requesting the help of her former friend and sole rival, Ellie Winter.

Ellie doesn't contact the dead - at least not anymore. She specializes in miraculously finding lost items. Still, she can't refuse the final request of the only other true psychic she has known. Now Ellie must delve into Gloria's secrets and plunge back into the world of hucksters, lowlifes, and fakes. Worse, she cannot shake the attentions of handsome James Hawley, a damaged war veteran who has dedicated himself to debunking psychics.

As Ellie and James uncover the sinister mysteries of Gloria's life and death, Ellie is tormented by nightmarish visions that herald the grisly murders of those in Gloria's circle. And as Ellie's uneasy partnership with James turns dangerously intimate, an insidious evil force begins to undermine their quest for clues, a force determined to bury the truth - and whoever seeks to expose it.

Another Great 1920's Ghost Story!

Simone St. James really knows how to write great ghost stories. This story takes place in 1920's London soon after the events that take place in An Inquiry into Love and Death. This time Scotland Yard inspector Drew Merriken is investigating the death of a young psychic. Here's hoping there are several more Inspector Merriken novels to come!

Another great work from St. James!

Once again Simone St. James has delivered an enchanting tale that whisks it's reader (listener) on a fantastic and emotional journey. The Narration is perfect. So easy to get lost in her voice. I highly recommend! Beware... You'll find yourself missing these characters and wanting more when the journey is complete.

Atmospheric gothic

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you love strong female leads with a pinch of romance and supernaturally accented mystery I recommend this book

What did you like best about this story?

I love stories with ghosts, seances, mystery.

Which scene was your favorite?

Of course I love the romantic parts but I especially love the ghost descriptions. I found myself thinking the author has really seen a ghost! Her description of them is exactly how I think they would be.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Spoiler! I love the dog who sees its owners ghost and this ghost is telling the dog to stay and not to follow him anymore

Any additional comments?

Great rainy day listen. One of the few books I've finished and I'm immediately listening too again

Excellent

Great, well developed plot and characters. Written in a good English mystery style, set in the 1920s. The narrator is one of the best, very easy to listen to.

If you could sum up The Other Side of Midnight in three words, what would they be?

I wasn't sure what I was getting into, but was pleasantly surprised

What did you like best about this story?

Excellent.

Great characters and a good story. The mystery kept me guessing and also sad that the book was finished. B

I’m amazed I like this so much

I’m not usually a huge fan of the romance genres. I literally struggled with myself because I couldn’t put it down and I didn’t want it to end at the Same time! The supernatural part of the book was not only NOT made cheesy... but it was actually believable. Plus.... there was just enough “romance” to make it interesting without it being gross.
I absolutely loved to listen to the narrators voice and will look for books from her again.
Nice work
