Brought to you by Penguin.

The deliciously creepy Sunday Times best seller from the author of The Chalk Man.

Driving home one night, Gabe sees the face of a little girl he knows in the rear window of the car in front.

She mouths one word - 'Daddy'. It's his five-year old daughter, Izzy.

He never sees her again.

The police believe she's dead. But three years later, Gabe still drives the roads, searching for the car that took Izzy, never giving up hope....

Meanwhile Fran and her daughter, Alice, aren't searching - but running.

Always one step ahead of the people who want to hurt them.

Because Fran knows the truth about Gabe's daughter.

And she knows what the people chasing her will do if they ever catch them....

Great thriller

I spent a large part of this book being puzzled about where this was going. Slowly each strand was pulled into place. Great story, expertly read

Twists and turns

Another story with twists and turns, it starts slowly, introducing the characters but then, the story takes off. I don’t want to give away any clues but something like this can happen to all of us.
The narration by Richard Armitage is superb as always, his ability to give every character their own voice and accent amazing

A brilliant thriller

The Other People is a brilliantly executed thriller by C. J. Tudor. Gabe's wife and daughter were murdered and buried, but he is convinced his daughter is alive, because he believes he saw her in someone's car on the motorway, so he spends the following three years travelling up and down the motorway, looking for the car and Izzy. The first half is a little slow, and I was wondering where the story was going, but it soon picks up, as Gabe discovers the lies and complex web he's entangled in, because he has a dark secret nobody knows and so do the others. The second half is fast paced and suspenseful and well worth the slow start. Richard Armitage's reading is brilliant, as always.

Tudor Steps it all up a Level!

Now this, is simply top drawer. From the very start this had me enthralled, intrigued and anxious to explore. I've enjoyed CJ Tudor's previous two books 'The Chalk Man' and 'The Taking of Annie Thorne' but to me this dark mystery and the characters within it represent a step up. I always have difficulty making comparisons to other authors but as a few people have made this leap before there is definitely something of Stephen King's style again in here. The possibility of the supernatural is always in this one but never allowed to dominate the human side of the story.

True, this tale, like many others relies on some big coincidences but seriously, don't let that bother you, enjoy the quality of the writing. The lonely other world that Tudor creates for some of her characters, a stark place it is too, even though it is situated right in some of our busiest places. People isolated in various ways from the largely happier world most of us inhabit.

Richard Armitage is of course amongst the gold standard of narrators but it should be mentioned that small passages are performed by Elly Kendrick even though she doesn't seem to be credited here. It works very well, with Kendrick's ghostly, almost sepulchral whispers contrasting to Armitage's more dominant representation of the real world.

This is a genuine five star story and performance, and I feel represents a step change improvement in Tudor's writing. This is dark, atmospheric and intriguing! Bravo!

Just a side note, if like me you sometimes plan your listening time to include the end of a good book it's worth knowing that the three short stories by CJ Tudor included in this recording take up about 41 minutes and the main story finishes at just about 9 hours and 35 minutes including closing credits. You'll have to wait a bit longer for the "Audible hopes . . ." guy though :-)

Not the best fit for me

I thought that Richard Armitage gave an excellent performance of the book and lifted it, most of the book I found interesting and sympathetic with some moments of intrigue, but the main flaw for me was that it contained a supernatural element, it isn't the main element by far, but it is there and the moment supernatural elements appear my brain switches off a little and I lose interest, especially when a book is set in the 'real world'. Real-life is mysterious and chilling enough, we don't need supernatural nonsense to highen it. Other than that it was a good albeit predictable crime novel read by a very talented actor.

WOW!!! Superb!

Wow I really loved this dark, bleak, creepy story of Gabe, a man looking for his missing daughter, when everyone else believes she is dead. It is a book I didn’t want to stop listening to, and one which will stay with me.

The prologue is very creepy, and this narrative continues throughout the book. As with Ms Tudor’s previous novels this one also has a supernatural element. The characters are all brilliantly drawn and I became completely immersed in their lives.. You can’t help but feel the terror Gabe must have felt seeing his daughter in that car window and his pain as he travels up and down the motorway looking for his daughter. Fran and her young daughter, Alice, who suffers from narcolepsy, are on the run. Katie is a hardworking single mother who works as a waitress in a motorway service station. And Isabella, who was left in a coma after being hit by a car, lives in a house overlooking the sea with her nurse. Gradually we find out what links them all.

And then there are ‘The Other People’!

The story is expertly plotted, and the writing is outstanding. I did see a slight similarity to The Chain, but this is a totally different book. Absolutely superb.

The brilliant narration by Richard Armitage really enhanced my enjoyment of the book.

BRILLIANT

Fantastic story!!
Very well written like her other books, lots of twists and turns to the story that kept me on the edge of my seat!
Kept me on tenterhooks waiting to hear the story unfold, and I had no idea how it was going to turn out!
Couldn’t wait to find out what had actually happened but at the same time I didn’t want it to end!!!

Can’t wait for her next book.

Eerie, atmospheric, addictive.

I couldn't stop listening to this superbly plotted thriller. It is every bit as good as C J Tudor's other novels and left me wanting more.

Richard Armitage did a great job with the narration.

Offbeat and fascinating

I loved this book. The author has an unusual and compelling way of storytelling. She sends eerie shivers up one's spine. Great work. Richard Armitage is a very talented narrator and actor. He brings each character to life and is brilliant at voice changes. I highly recommend this book.

A good story...

A good story, I quite enjoyed it. Although it felt cheapened by the paranormal bits. I would have preferred it if it had just been a straight-forward mystery, the paranormal part took me out of the scene. Other than that, it's well written and well read.

Dark, intriguing

Like most people I thoroughly enjoyed Tudor’s previous novels. This book delves straight into the story and the character development is nothing short of brilliance. There are smaller mysteries and occurrences woven into the story and a hint of something supernatural.
Really well written book and fantastic narration with some shorter stories at the end, The Lion being a particularly good one.

Mixed metaphors

I tend to review books that were a waste of time and money. I forced myself to get my value by listening to almost the end. The contrived plot was forced into some kind of resolution by introducing spooky elements right at the end. It struggled awkwardly all the way. Villains were suddenly introduced, Characters were left dangling. One of the worst books I should have never read.

Fantastic - well written - great narrator

The storyline was unique, interesting, compelling, intriguing and all the musts for a good thriller / mystery novel....I couldn't stop listening. The authors writing is great! I loved CJ Tudors book 'The Burning Girls' so this was my 2nd purchase of her novels and it didn't disappoint!
