Publisher's summary

A woman in the British Horticultural Society! The very idea horrifies everyone, including ardent horticulturalist Lavinia Harlow, whose own name has been put forth for membership by the provoking Marquess of Huntly. He does it as a joke, of course, to get back at her for an imagined slight - well, to be fair, she had insulted his writing -and Vinnie, older sister to the infamous Harlow Hoyden, is far too sensible to rise to his ridiculous challenge.

Determined to head off further scandal (her name has already been recorded in the betting book at Brooks's!), Vinnie dashes off a polite note refusing the honor - which she has every intention of sending. Really. Only she can't help but chafe at the way everyone keeps demanding that she decline at once, even the marquess. Oh, especially the marquess, whose perfection she finds intolerable. Who ever heard of a gentleman being so handsome and so intelligent and so well-informed about foreign flora? Clearly, the man needs to be taken down a peg, and somehow, despite all 24 years of faultless propriety, Vinnie is just the hoyden to do it.

Bonus content: This audiobook includes the novella The Fellingham Minx.

Adorable fun!

I am really enjoying these! I also enjoyed Lynn Messina's Beatrice Hyde-Clare series. The narrator is very well-suited and has a pleasant voice. I am mainly reviewing to comment about the novella at the end, which is really what they are calling "Book 3" here, so there is no gap in the audio for that book, but there is ANOTHER full book, which seems to be available on Kindle but not on audible, called Miss Fellingham's Rebellion. that seems to come before the novella, but doesn't seem to have anything to do with the Harlow girls. It's all a bit confusing, but for those who are enjoying them and would like to read them all, I thought I would leave a comment. I will grab the next one. I really like Ms. Messina's writing.

The first book is better

I was surprised the see that the book, the second in its series, got a better star rating than the first. Personally, I liked the first book better but this one is good as well. What I think is a huge disservice to the audible is the narrator. She makes the main characters sound like airheads then the words read like they have intelligent and clever personalities. Like I said with the first book, you might get more out of this series if you read it rather than listen to it.

Loved, loved, loved it!!!

I thought book one was an excellent listen and could not wait to jump back into the story. The second book, though not as good as the first, was an absolute joy.

The Harlow girls are front and center. Lavinia carries the majority of the story here but Emma, the original Harlow hoyden, is still in residence. I loved that we get to see what Emma's HEA looks like.

Lavinia's story is just as special as Emma's, her duke is just as appealing, and they both had their share of troubles. I really like how they ended up together. I did not see that coming!!!!

The narrator was absolutely divine. Regency romances have a certain feel and that was on constant display with this narration.

I hope we get to see more of the Harlow girls as this series continues!!

Loved both stories!

First the story of the second Harlow girl which was witty and delightful!

Then a short story about Evelyn and her hard time being able to intelligently converse with her handsome crush.

Both so much fun and the narrator was perfect! Adore this author!

Much fun.... but read them in order!

Loved Lavinias' story.... it had so much Emma and Trent in it that you MUST read the Harlow Hoyden first!

The novella at the end had me so twisted and confused that I almost skipped it, but it all ended well and made sense in the end. I have the horrible feeling that a different series or something came first...... and I definitely could have used the information ahead of time. The first novel was fine but the ending novella was SO confusing....

Lucy Rayner is perfect for these books....

I'm off to download book three......

Very fun!

I am really enjoying the Harlow sisters. The author does a great job with the dialog. The narrator is well suited for the series. The novella at the end was a bit confusing.

Bonus novella spoiler

I do like Vinnie and Hartley, and I think they learned a bit about themselves. So if you liked Emma’s story you will want to meet someone for her sis and see the culmination of Vs growth. However, hold off on listening to the bonus novella until you have read the third book because it inevitably contains a “reminder of the plot “ about Catherine’s story and now I feel as if I have heard it already.

Very much enjoyed this sequel to first Harlow girl

Great story for Vinnie. Quite a few laugh-out-loud moments. A comic Regency story, which I most enjoy. I think the narrator did a very good job. Note - some listeners complained reader made the 2 Harlow ladies sound like Minnie Mouse, but if you read the rest of this author/ reader books, then you find others heroines with their own voices.

Fun!

Lynn Messina writes fun, funny charming stories. They are excellent palate cleansers between heavier books. They are also excellent for cheering me up if I’m in a bad mood. My only complaint is the narrator. She is excellent in many ways, but her female voices can be very loud and high-pitched, while her male voices can be very quiet and low pitched. So, if you turn the volume up to hear the male voices, you get very loud shrill, female voices. If you turn the volume down to spare your ears, you can’t hear what the male voices are saying. For all of the other aspects of her narration, she’s excellent. I highly recommend these books for their fun light pleasure.

Not bad story, but the narration is annoying

I liked the story much more than book 1. I liked this couple better, too. The biggest problem was the odd references to the twins' relationship that did not coincide with what actually happened in book 1. It was confusing. The FMC voice used by the narrator was likenails on a chalkboard. UGH!
