Publisher's summary

With America in ashes and lawlessness threatening to rule land, air, and sea, one pilot stands poised to pull his nation back from the brink of all-out anarchy.

The Big War started in Western Europe with a Soviet nerve gas attack that laid waste to France, Germany, and Spain. The world’s democracies fought back, and pilots like Hawk Hunter led the charge - tearing across the flaming wreckage of the continent at supersonic speeds. They pushed the Russians back and just when victory was in sight, a traitor at the highest level of government turned off America’s missile defense system, and Soviet nukes rained from the sky.

Two years after the nuclear holocaust, Hunter gets a message to report to his old commander. America is in pieces: pirates rule the skies, and an airborne armada is plotting to attack Football City (formerly known as St. Louis). The armada is made up of criminals flying state-of-the-art jets, and even though the government can only offer Hunter his old F-16, he will do whatever it takes to reclaim his ravaged homeland.

Truly Disappointed

Was a big let down for me and I have been reading this series since 1993. It felt like the author didn't put much effort into just grabbed up what notes he's had laying around that didn't make the cut in past books and threw it into this one. Almost like his just try to fulfill is contract obligations so he dosen't have have to pay back the advance, truly disappointed.

Poorly done

Pass this one by. No technical knowledge and an insult to special ops books. The story line was sophomoric and extremely weak. I can’t believe it was even published.

Abit of patchwork in pulp-style

I heard of this series for a few years and got this book that wasn't that great has the plot kept change to different plot lines that each felt they could have been there own individual sidestorys.

The Mc for the life me I can't see he didn't kiss the pirate queen such alet down that part, and really who was the girl in the baseball hat?
P.S.
The synopdis for this novel on audible is wrong its actually this: "Hawk Hunter and the United American Air Force destroy a secret Arctic base belonging to Viktor Robotov—only to see the super-villain’s submarine, the Odessa, mysteriously disappear at the height of the battle.

Though determined to get back to America, Hunter’s return flight keeps getting interrupted. Forced to crash-land on a remote island, he finds its residents under attack by the Russians and in need of his help to repel the invaders. Then a Free Canadian warship goes missing in the Bermuda Triangle and Hunter is called on to look for it.

His journey is delayed yet again when his ex-girlfriend Dominique’s new love interest is captured by Viktor’s minions and faces execution. Flying his banged-up fighter into Russian-controlled Germany, Hunter attempts to rescue the dying man, only to discover a chance to complete his original mission."
