Alfreda Hitchthorn lives in a forest away from the city, tending to her home and well-being with minimal help from the outside world. A natural witch, Alfreda's magic just happens; however, as she attempts to lead a normal life with a family, marriage, and love, she's left scorned and defeated. To avoid being a lonely victim of circumstance, Alfreda throws herself into her life’s work: Writing a novel about a young girl named Morna Stabes - who's not only the main character in the book but also a slave to Alfreda's words. Her magic makes Morna real, but Morna soon realizes her life isn't her own and ventures off to find Alfreda, to take her life back by any means necessary.
