Publisher's summary

Jessie Murphy is released from prison with the intention of escaping her past. Homeless and alone, her plans to dodge karma’s spite seem like nothing more than wishful thoughts until a shot of Wild Turkey turns things around.

She ends up lost in the wilderness of passion that is Bard. A drunk and a hermit, he is no stranger to wandering souls, and Jessie tries desperately not to get drawn into his mystery and allure.

But her dark past backs her into a corner, leaving her with nobody else to trust.

She fights to keep herself safe, hiding from and confronting old shadows, but with Bard by her side, the danger seems much closer.

Who is she really protecting herself from?

underrated!

I found Wendy Cole on Wattpad. What a fabulous story teller! I enjoy everything I have read by her. I'm dying for some of her other works to make it to audible!

This story....melts me. I love it.

Taking 'Me, Too' Beyond Every Day

It's always good to hear a person of any age, after suffering a lifetime of abuse and suffering, stand on her own legs and get a voice. Wendy Cole writes this story of gaining control of a troubled life beautifully. What Jessie endured is not unrealistic. I have many friends who grew up with similar stories. It is moving to see victims of abuse face their past, start their lifelong healing and gain the ability to truly love.
Bard faced his own hurdles. I loved the bear symbolism wound through the book. Wendy Cole's depiction of Bard is so vivid, I can hear him growl, feel his beard. When an author takes the time to detail a story with rich, sensory images I feel like I'm there and the responding emotions are mine as well as theirs. Wendy's descriptions put me right there.
I listened to this book, and I loved the narration. My family is from Colorado and Zeke sounds just like my brother. I appreciated the narrator's midwestern accent as well, and most of all, Jessie's flinching, feisty, fighting voice.
I recommend this book, however you choose to experience it.

great story, terrible narrator

Great characters & excellent plot! Hated the narration, the bad fake southern accents were painful.

It’s a great story

This is a great story because stories like these are what I normally read about. I really did enjoy it. I normally like to read it by myself and not use audio. The audio was pretty good but in my opinion it was better to just read it by yourself.
