Publisher's summary

The Nightlife Series is violent, sexy, and occasionally violently sexy. Vampires, strippers, escorts, night clubs, pimps and dirty cops - The Nightlife: New York is never boring.

Aaron Pilan's life is forever changed when he's shot trying to rescue a drop-dead gorgeous woman on the streets of New York. Aaron is thrust into the shocking world of vampiric slavery when Michelle shares her blood to save his life.

Michelle's existence as a solitary vampire is also altered when she accepts this naive young man into her life. Bound by her blood, Aaron is subject to her authority. He walks a tightrope of strictly controlled feeding regiments and intense sexual adventures while catering to the neurotic control-freak tendencies of his new master. She vows to eliminate him if he proves too difficult to control.

This paranormal romance thriller is bold and evocative, infusing blood, sex, love, and turmoil in an urban drama about two vampires battling evil outside and within themselves.

Oh-oh-ooh-oh-oh-oh! Caugth In A "Dark" Romance!

When thinking of a headline for this review, Lady Gaga's Bad Romance just kept playing in my mind! The lyrics reminded me of this story.

Nightlife ~ An erotic tale about the dark relationship between Michelle and Aaron which eventually evolves into love and respect. Their journey to this new found love is full of violence, blood, and sex. Be warned NO sexy vampire bites here!

I've had this book in my Kindle library for along time and never read the story; however, I couldn't resist getting the audiobook once I learned it was available. It's a good thing I don't mind listening to stories outside my comfort zone, because some of the scenes pushed my comfort zone. Nightlife is not for the faint of heart, and there are a few disturbing scenes so be warned. Personally, if one of the scenes had been cut (towards the end), I would have enjoyed the entire story. Now, I'm just going to have to listen to something cute and fuzzy to get the image out my mind. Yuck!

Overall, this was a fairly intense plot, and the darker vampire world-building was well developed. Because of the overall plot, characters and world-building, I am giving the story an overall four stars. I'm still on the fence about continuing the series. I know I will check out the next book, but not sure if I will dive into it!

Johanna Fairview delivered a great performance, and nailed the accents flawlessly. She even tantalizes the listener during the erotic scene with a seductive voice, bringing them to life.

I couldn't put it down!!

I loved this book!! I ordered the audio version. I have high expectations for my reads and this book did not disappoint! Very good storyline and well-written. I will definitely purchase the next book. Beware, it's very erotic and seductive.

There...

are four smirks within the first fifteen percent of this novel. Not a good sign. Halfway through the book, though he continued to use that trope, he redeemed himself with great passionate sex scenes. Even the disturbing ones. I would consider this book right on the line of acceptable smirkiness. I'm not sure what it is about this genre that promotes the use of that word/expression, but at least this author tempered it with good character development and plot.
He didn't really add anything original to the take on vampire lore. Speed, strength, telepathy, bloodlust, etc. were all the normal features maintained in this book. The French accented lead vampiress that could read auras was unique and well acted by Miss Fairview. I also enjoyed some of the other cultural representations including a Spanish father, a pair of crooked Brooklyn cops, and a gang of black thugs. I found the honesty in the portrayals refreshing. Though, I'm not sure the experience would have been the same if read in text. All in all, this was a pretty generic piece of fiction that I could have done without....but begrudgingly liked for the few good qualities it did have. Especially the sex scenes.

not the best

I hate to give bad reviews but sometimes I feel the need. I had high hopes for this book but it was a book that after chapter 10 I could not force myself to go one more. and the narrator wasn't the best either sorry.
