An exploration of loss

City of Glass is a strange and masterful work. It borrows elements of detective fiction, but is mainly an exploration of loss and its deep effect on the main character Quinn. Loss and the way Quinn’s identity is affected is at the core of this fascinating novel. The writing is compelling and the narrator is superb. Highly recommended.

Intriguing but at times goes off on less interesting tangents

Paul Auster is a masterful story teller and this trilogy takes you on twists and turns that leave you wondering what it’s all about long after finishing the books.

The narrator does a wonderful job and has just the right tone. Throughout each of the parts, there are themes that mirror each other and you’re never sure what it all means or where it all leads. This trilogy would be brilliant for a book club that you could have endless in depth conversations any.

Such an enjoyable listen

And I can't say exactly why. I just finished and know I'll listen again. This is meant to be read aloud/audible. Completely different than most things you've read but if you've read a lot, you'll see pieces, thoughts from other books. I know these stories will stay in my brain and I'll just have to listen again.

Gripping, thought-provoking, hilarious

I loved this read. The middle story did drag - like repeating the first story without any of the fun stuff. But the first and last stories were fantastic - really genuine and free of many of the usual story-telling conventions that can stifle an author's voice. Also, this is one of the few audiobooks in which the narration is so good I don't think I would have gotten as much out of it if I'd simply read it. So good I gifted the audiobook to a friend.

Hook, Line, Not a Sinker

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This book hooked me at first, and the story line I found interesting completely got left on the sideline as the book progressed. Still time well spent, but not the best time I've spent.

This book is symphony !

the book's rhythm flows like music , making it very easy to follow, to keep the thread of it, to become more engaged with it. just love it. now I can't wait to start reading and listening to "4 3 2 1" .

worth it

great literature, good reading. performer does voices for characters; not exaggerated, though, and mostly on point

Wish it was narrated by Paul Auster

The New York Trilogy is one of my favorite books, but I wish the audiobook was narrated by Paul Auster (not sure why bc his other titles are). Would love to see this redone with Paul.
