Great Book

Very informative. It presents the China story from a different perspective. It gives a very good analysis of the economic rise of China with an objective view that is difficult to gain from western media. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to understand China politically, socially and economically.

Very good insight on the inner workings of China’s economy. Must read for many Americans.

Very informative analysis

Her vision for the world is idealistic and it’s a spin of the wheel if China will evolve in the fashion she envisions. While she is a very good analyst and very informative she sometimes seems to want two things at the same time.

Common Sense Optimism

It is refreshing to read a book that just makes sense -- cutting through the ideological propaganda that pervades the "free world" discourse about rival superpowers.

Good content but missing important information

Writer doesn't mention China s aggressive behavior in the south china sea or in other countries' markets, such as Africa and Latin America, through the debt trap policy. She downplays the seriousness of widespread corruption and lack of accountability of people in power nor mentions the infighting between government factions which caused so much suffering during the pandemic. She fails to mention that politics was the main reason they kept the country under horrendous covid policies and closed borders, isolating China from the international community for far too long. COVID restrictions after the 1st year had nothing to do with science, only politics. And after lifting the restrictions at the end of 2022, she fails to mention that most places went bankrupt.

Hopefully it helps dispell some of the confusion and paranoia about everything related to China and her economic ascent.

A refreshing view that provides a much needed understanding of China, the Chinese government and the Chinese economic system. Much better and far more nuanced than the typical western propaganda.

Tell it the way it is from data and facts

Jin presented a very different view than what you read from the news media nowadays.

Forging a collaboration hopefully will avoid a Thucydides trap.

I enjoyed the Explanations of provincial government, local leaders being responsible for budgets, as well as the slow trend to individual preference, and perhaps an openness to financial Capital flows will arise

Every author has their own biasness. I also don't see any baseless claims on this book. This book will further help you understand Chinese economy. Also, the author did great job without villifying the West.
