Publisher's summary

From a master of suspense comes a chilling novel that explores the dangers lurking closer than you think. Because even in the perfect family, you never know what is going on behind closed doors….

This is what happened… It was a case guaranteed to spark a media feeding frenzy—a young mother, blond and pretty, disappears without a trace from her South Boston home, leaving behind her four-year-old daughter as the only witness and her handsome, secretive husband as the prime suspect. In the last six hours…

But from the moment Detective Sergeant D. D. Warren arrives at the Joneses’ snug little bungalow, she senses something off about the picture of wholesome normality the couple worked so hard to create. On the surface, Jason and Sandra Jones are like any other hardworking young couple raising a four-year-old child. But it is just under the surface that things grew murky. Of the world as I knew it….

With the clock ticking on the life of a missing woman and the media firestorm building, Jason Jones seems more intent on destroying evidence and isolating his daughter than on searching for his “beloved” wife. Is the perfect husband trying to hide his guilt—or just trying to hide? And will the only witness to the crime be the killer’s next victim?

Suspenseful, everything you'd expect

Action, intrigue and suspense. The kind of writing expected from Gardner. I'm looking forward to the 4th in this series.

Never disappoints

3rd book in to this series and I am left wanting to binge listen to the next. Had me thinking every guy in the story was the bad guy. Nice twist at the end.

Great story...dragged a bit in spots w/ redundancy

Dragged quite a bit with redundant details in several spots. But great story. DD Warren's character is very difficult to like I've noticed after reading this and previous books.

Wow!!!!! What a book!!!!!

**May contain spoilers**

This book is amazing. It literally grabs you and doesn't let go. I did however feel we needed a few more chapters to wrap things up. It was rushed at the end in my opinion.
My heart broke for both the husband and Aiden Brewster. They were both portrayed in a bad light throughout the entire book. The way the police bullied and hounded them really infuriated me. I have read a few books starring DD Warren in the past and actually liked her. However in this book she was a hard ass bully who focused only on Jason and Aiden. Aiden begged for police protection because he feared for his life. His reasons were totally valid and the police are to blame for his death. This book didn't portray the police in a good light. I love the police and respect them immensely however it makes you wonder if this is the way police officers do things in the real world.
I highly recommend this book. By far the best Lisa Gardner book I've read. It's totally worth a credit.

Surprisingly good listen

I've never listened or read any books previously by Lisa Gardner, and I found this one very good. Nice pace, interesting, not horribly predictable, yet maybe a bit frustrating at places. Decent listen and interested in listening to more of her work.
