When Jonell McLain saw the diamond necklace in the store window, it aroused first desire, then a provocative question: Why are personal luxuries so plentiful, yet accessible to so few? What if we shared what we desired? A dozen phone calls and a leap of faith later, Jonell bought the necklace with 12 other women, with the goal of sharing it.

With vastly dissimilar histories and lives, the women show us how they transcended their individual personalities and politics to join together in an uncommon journey. What started as a quirky social experiment became something far richer and deeper, as the women transformed a symbol of exclusivity into a symbol of inclusiveness. Soon, sharing the necklace among themselves proved to be the beginning of a profound journey of possibility that would touch the lives of a community.

I enjoyed this book particularly because it is a true story. At first, I was skeptical when I thought it was fiction b/c I thought, “That (anecdote) would never happen. Then I researched it and learned it is true. That made it such a delightful story.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Necklace to be better than the print version?

I completely enjoyed the audion edition. I am sure it "reads well too, but I loved the audio.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked one and then as I read on, I liked the next character. I think it showed the compassionate side of women.

What about Pam Ward’s performance did you like?

She had a tough task to voice so many different characters and I give her "props" for how well she did that.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Fantasy from the heart.

An excellent women's discussion.
