Publisher's Summary

The Surprise Of Her Life

.

Miss Sarah Hamilton, a proper Philadelphian, finds London society altogether shocking. How can it be that she has awakened from her innocent slumber to find herself in bed next to a handsome - and exceedingly naked - man? The laughing onlookers standing in the doorway are no help whatsoever and surely this amorous lunatic cannot be a duke, as he claims.

She is compromised - though she most certainly will not marry him!

The Sweetest Moment Of His

James, the Duke of Alford, is enchanted by his unexpected bedmate - and not at all afraid of her pink-cheeked fury. True, the circumstances and place of their meeting are most unusual, but the spirited American who's pummeling him with a pillow is an incomparable beauty. If Sarah will only listen to his perfectly reasonable explanation, James is sure that he can capture her heart. . .forever.

So very, very bad.

Predictable plot.

The dumbest heroine imaginable. Think of the most prudish person you ever met and multiply that by 1000000. She's also whinier than a three year old.

The hero makes no sense. He's supposed to be a virgin who finds hookers gross, but at the beginning he's in bed with her and assumes she's a prostitute. Despite his aversion he was perfectly willing to sleep with her. Huh?

too violent and graphic in both sex and murder.

Stopped struggling to finish it. The story and performance were awkward and disgusting in sex and violence portrayed by and about women.

what a useless cowardly F- tard!

I've never screamed at an audiobook character like the hero in this waste.. he was the biggest pansy I've ever encountered in a book! the entire story he knew who and where to find the single villain not to mention literally everyone and everything he loved was threatened by this one psycho and this guy couldn't bring himself to do anything about it.. not to mention the story takes place in the time of "pistols at dawn" the whole time the guy was more concerned about his penis issues to actually defend his family... the entire story was a contradiction and... I just realized I could go on and on and on but I've wanted enough time on this book. how she wrote so many is the true mystery not this book. oh one more thing the climax with the villian and his slow multiple chapter sexual assault of the heroine was just brutal. how anyone can call that shit entertaining i just don't know.... this coming from a fan of bdsm and the darker side of romance. I'm going to take a shower and use a lot of q-tips.

by the way this is my very first review that's how shitty this book was and how it made me feel after!

charming romance

Storyline was very simple. The villain was clearly stated at the beginning so there was no guessing as to who was behind all the attempts at the hero's life. Two things that did not work well against this book were that 1) the heroine kept resisting marriage to the hero because she thought he was a rake. At some point I was ready to fast forward listen to the story and be done with it if I heard, "BUT HE IS A RAKE" one more time. Finally about an hour away from the ending she got her answer to that question and boy was that a relief. The other negative point about this book was that 2) both villains had homosexual tendencies and had no issues with rape, etc. Now I am not gay nor do I have tendencies for exploring, but I am insulted on the behalf of the gay community. Not well done. This story also lacked the clever writing and witty one liners Sally Mackenzie is known for. It had promise but did not deliver, but I still enjoyed reading it. The duke seemed so genuinely bested and the almost sex scenes were hot without it involving much more than a kiss. The book is on sale now but even if it was not, I still found it entertaining enough not to ask for a refund.

Warning! Graphic rape, sex, and violence

This book should have come with a warning label! The title and discription make this book sound like a light hearted romance.... But seriously please avoid or reader beware there are graphic violent rape murder and violent attempted rape scenes in this book.

Meh

Sarah was one of the most irritating female characters I’ve ever read/heard. She was a judgmental hypocrite. Despite knowing how sheltered she was raised, she believes the word of a man that she fears and has attempted to usurp her benefactor on multiple occasions. For months she fought her attraction to the Duke because of gossip that was told to her instead of asking the man directly if the rumors were true...she could’ve even asked her relative for guidance but didn’t. Then she foolishly puts herself in danger to prove a man’s guilt when they already had the testimony of his accomplice...who was caught attempting to murder the Duke after previously trying to rape Sarah.

Odd disconnects

I can't quite tell if it is the story or the narrator that makes this story odd. Everything is presented like a happy little rom-com and then borderline necrophelia happens and detailed descriptions of places and people that are surprisingly graphic (and not in sexy fun times ways). And I started to feel like maybe I should be rooting for the villians, or at least some of them. Not in the "I hope they succeed in killing the hero" but in the "I hope they can find peace" sort of way. This book was just strange. It is worth checking out, but be prepared that it is not quite the fluffy story you may be expecting by the cover.

Excellent!

An adorable regency romance. Fun with lovely characters. A hero looking for a bride and an American looking for her place in life.

This book should was a solid nope for me

Firstly there is a rape and murder scene, and people should know before they listen to this book. It could trigger someone. The heroine was so dumb, who agrees to go to a bedroom without knowing whose room it is, and how she will pay for it with a man who is clearly drunk... The narrator made everyone sound like old people and I found myself fast forwarding because the narrator's voice grated. I almost abandoned the story.
