In Jude 14-16, the author continues the theme of the judgment of his opponents, the false teachers. In this instance, Jude cites the book of Enoch (1 Enoch 1:9) specifically to make his case. In this episode, we discuss the implications of Jude’s citation of 1 Enoch and the Old Testament sources from which the verse in 1 Enoch derive. OUR SPONSOR: LOGOS.COM/NAKEDBIBLE

In Jude 11-13, the author continues his portrayal of, and warning against, false teachers using three archetypal Old Testament episodes of rebellion and sin. In these verses, Jude compares the false teachers and their content to the rebellion of Cain (Gen 4), the betrayal of Balaam (Num 22-25), and the rebellion of Korah (Num 16). What is it about these three Old Testament episodes that led Jude to use them to describe the false teachers he opposed? Was Jude tapping into Intertestamental Jewish tradition to do so? Find out in this episode. OUR SPONSOR: LOGOS.COM/NAKEDBIBLE

One of the oddest verses in the short epistle of Jude is Jude 9, which describes some sort of struggle between Michael the archangel and the Devil (Satan). Many commentators see an allusion to Zechariah 3, but in this episode we take a different perspective about the meaning of this verse. Rather than Zechariah 3, certain features of Old Testament cosmic geography are a better backdrop to this odd passage. OUR SPONSOR: LOGOS.COM/NAKEDBIBLE

Great Biblical Material

Heiser distills his and many other Bible scholars' research into biblical book and subject teaching for non-scholars. He delves into the thinking of the new and old Testament writers, as well as writers in the inter-testamental period to greatly expand one's understanding of what the writers were communicating. The series covers entire books - Hebrews, Exodus, Ezekiel, etc., and subjects like marriage and divorce in the old and new Testaments, old Testament influences in the Gospels, and material from Heiser's Unseen Realm book. Also he has guest scholars on the podcast from time to time, along with periodic question and answer episodes. It's highly recommended to motivated listeners who want more than the usual Sunday sermon-level fare, or popular Christian books, in an easy-to-listen format.

Best Bible Podcast Out There

I have learned so much listening to this podcast over the past several years. There are several deep dives into both the Old and New Testament. There is also many many episodes covering pretty much any question one might have, especially about the "weirder" parts of the Bible. So glad that its on Audible now!

Dr. Michael S. Heiser is a Godsend!

I have just started listening to The Naked Bible Podcast a couple months ago. It is because Dr. Michael Beiser is the one narrating and writing it. I love how he breaks The Bible down for you to understand it from a different point of view. Actually from the point of view of the people who wrote The Bible and the 1st century Jew, so I feel like I'm learning The Bible all over again. I am currently on episode 94 I'm a late starter, lol, but I love every single episode that I have listened to so far and have learned so much. On top of that I received several of his books the Unseen Realm, Demons, Angels, etc. Thank you!

Perhaps the best Bible podcast ever

Dr Heiser's clear, laymen's language brings deep scholarship and the newest findings to the average person - with all the depth you'd want in a Post-Doctoral seminar. Simple, clear, reasonable, and spoken with a laconic hunour. What's not to like? This stuff is amazing, and all free. I am a pastor, and this has made my understanding of the Old Testament leeap off the page of nice stories, to become integral to EVERYTHING we do in life, and to understanding of the New Testament. It is truly extraordinary. And as he says, his dirty little secret is that this is not uniquely his information - it is all peer-reviewed material accpeted by most OT scholarsw!!!

Inspired to persevere by your teaching on the word

I like the interchange between Dr heiser and Trey when ideas and subjects are introduced to us. It suggests to me that we are invited to enter into the conversation each podcast. I love sensible way Dr Heiser knows so much of OT sharing insights we cannot gather on our own without the scholarly knowledge. I have joined the awakening school of theology for 2022 spring semester so I can work on my knowledge in depth. Keep it up with God's help... Love in Christ Betty.. Prayers for you both

Refreshing and Insightful

Happened upon this by accident and am really glad I did. Brilliant discussion on the reality of seeing God in our culture in ways I was previously blind to. Refreshing and insightful!
