The time? Tomorrow. Can the president of the United Red States of America and the president of the United Blue States of America come together to stop a giant asteroid before it destroys Earth in one month's time? Who is the mysterious Doctor Apophis? What is the "S.U.R.", and why is the president of the USA determined to defend it at all costs? What the hell is the Canadian army doing in North Dakota, and why does HRH Queen Kate of England want to wage war with the USA? And what is...The Myoshi Effect?

If you could sum up The Myoshi Effect in three words, what would they be?

What A Trip

What did you like best about this story?

Slapstick parody of power and politics designed to show people at their silliest and worst

Which character – as performed by David S. Dear – was your favorite?

Mr. David Dear does an excellent job with the many characters and accents, which makes listening to the audiobook probably a more interesting and funny experience than reading the book

Any additional comments?

FUNNY TO THE LAST

In this funny take on what would happen if the blue and red states split, when an asteroid is about to hit the Earth, its becomes a political free for all, with 2 Presidents of the United States, one of whom is just a little bit nuts, having to deal with not only the asteroid, but also Canada invading North Dakota, crazy generals, and a wild cast of characters. All in all a funny take on the end of the world novel, and when you find out what the Myoshi Effect is, you will bust a gut laughing.

David Dear does a decent job narrating, moving the story along.

I was voluntarily given a review copy of this audiobook by the narrator, author or publisher through Audiobookboom.

If you could sum up The Myoshi Effect in three words, what would they be?

Satire, Relevant, Funny

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Myoshi Effect?

There are so many, beginning to end - the dual presidency, the invading Canadian Hoarde, the Owsley, Grace Slick inspired meeting of the leadership. The urine collection... onward and forward. Lampooning extraordinaire!

Which character – as performed by David S. Dear – was your favorite?

The entire ensemble of the story. The delivery and variety of voices. The flow and pace. Well done.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listened TWICE back to back! Seriously, I have never done that.

Any additional comments?

If you are easily offended, BEWARE! If you watch what is happening on the news and just chuckle and shake your head or get peaced off then you should this audio version of "The Myoshi Effect".

One of my new favorite humor audio books!

Thanks for the opportunity to review it.

All's Well That Ends... Well! Great Satire!

It was the best of times, it was the end of times. Just like Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities, but nothing like it at all. No, this one's a classic! This is the tale of two Presidents. Of two 'divided' United States. Yes, of America. (Hmm, not such a bad idea.) A Red States President, a Blue States President. Forget any vice president, one of them's got enough vices of his own -- to fill a massive secret cavern 443.2 meters underground in a small town in North Dakota, you might say. Speaking of Vice Presidents, Al Gore makes a brief cameo. How author Jim Yoakum managed to pull that off, I don't know. Connections, I guess. Anyway, I digress. This is the tale of a giant asteroid, hurtling toward earth. In one month's time we will all, most certainly, die.

The Myoshi Effect. Science fiction, or science friction? Friction between two Presidents. Friction between cabinet members. Friction between Countries. Canada at war with the U.S. (or North Dakota, at least). Friction (at first) between the Queen of England (Kate Middleton) and the Canadian Prime Minister. Friction between Queen Kate and the Hollywood tabloids. Friction between a student's lips and a Rocket Pop. Friction between Charles Dickens and... no, wait, scratch that. Anyway, can Doctor Apophis save the day(s)? Will the giant asteroid wipe out all humanity? Would that be such a bad thing? Well, you'll all just have to listen to the audiobook to find out for yourselves, now, won't you!

So, QUICK! Buy this book before it's too late!

If you enjoy a good laugh (and who doesn't?), author Jim Yoakum's the man. I found myself laughing from cover to cover, despite it being an audiobook. All characters brought to life and acted out wonderfully by narrator David S. Dear.

Any additional comments?

The Myoshi effect is a frightening look at a divided future with an asteroid on the horizon. How to stop it? Listen and ye shall learn. Yoakum crafts a very interesting tale with an equally interesting conclusion.
David S. Dear, the narrator, is great, but his voice takes some getting used to. It fits very well with the style and is easy overlooked.
