Publisher's Summary

When Jack is sent to Hazelwood, Iowa, to live with his strange aunt and uncle, he expects a summer of boredom. Little does he know that the people of Hazelwood have been waiting for him for a long time....

When he arrives, three astonishing things happen: First, he makes friends - not imaginary friends but actual friends. Second, he is beaten up by the town bully; the bullies at home always ignored him. Third, the richest man in town begins to plot Jack’s imminent, and hopefully painful, demise. It’s up to Jack to figure out why suddenly everyone cares so much about him. Back home he was practically, well, invisible.

The Mostly True Story of Jack is a tale of magic, friendship, and sacrifice. It’s about things broken and things put back together. Above all, it’s about finding a place to belong.

LOVED IT, Kelly Barnhill is amazing!

I'm going backwards in her bibliography, but this is my third book from this author and my first experience with Luke Daniels. Luke's acting made the experience better than most narrators I've listened to; not in just the voices, but in sighs and tones as well. The other Kelly Barnhill books I read were The Girl who Drank the Moon and Witch's Boy I love all three of these and all for different reasons although it all boils down to the stories. They're all fantasy but all have great, beautiful stories and worlds that you can't help but enjoy and this is no exception.

another gem

Kelly Barnhill has yet to disappoint me. The tales she weaves draw me right in and keep me wanting more. Thank you for another great story.

I just could not get into this book

loved the author's other book titled, "the girl who drank the moon". I just couldn't get into this one... And I've usually love Luke Daniels... He is an excellent storyteller... But even he couldn't save this one. the characters did not do anyting for Luke Daniels... This book had little humor and it seemed to drag on forever... I'm sorry for my harsh words... But this is one of the rare books that I just didn't like

the mostly true story of Jack

the narrator was good. Overall story felt just a little flat. I was missing it's deeper inside into the story and the characters. the first book I read by Kelly Barnhill was the girl who drank the Moon. I totally fell in love with the characters in the story because it was filled with a lot of heart. I did not find that in this particular book. it is still lovely but just not as deep.
