Very nice little listen

This is such a nice story and I really enjoyed listening to it. The voice work is wonderful and I look forward to the additional stories that seem to be planned ;).

This is a fun cozy first book in a new series. Small town and quirky characters that all want what is best for their town, but most have their own idea how it should be done. I can almost picture these people in my town. It is hilarious in places, but some others are sad. I enjoyed seeing who would prevail. I will definitely continue with this series.


The narration was well done.The characters were well portrayed by Becky Doughty.

Small Town Kentucky Irks and Quirks

So glad I found this new series about the funny and endearing folks of Goose Creek . . . a Kentucky girl myself, I had to laugh at the antics and goings on, especially Little Norm and his shoddy job of painting the water tower and his father, Norman who is trying to strong arm the city council into giving his son the job a second time . . . the mayor gently maneuvering through the mess to request bids, while trying to keep the peace . . . the town veterinarian is retiring and selling the business to a young whippersnapper, Dr. Susan Jeffries, a woman, no less . . . and the locals ain't having it . . . no way, especially when Susan meets Mrs. Barnes and her big black cat, Arnold on her first day at the clinic . . . noticing that Arnold had six toes, Susan noted that it was a birth mutation . . . thus began the boycott of the the clinic and the rumor that Susan had threatened to cut off the cat's sixth toe! Millie Richardson, the part-time receptionist, takes Susan under her wing, gently helping her to get to know the people of Goose Creek and build her business . . . Millie and Al, who cannot see eye to eye on buying the old Victorian home that Millie has her heart set on . . . and the bargaining they do, both overtly and covertly . . . as those of us in long marriages can appreciate . . . ha ha . . . Adorable

Sometimes you come across a book you just want so bad to be real. A place so full of charm and characters you long to go and meet them, sit with them and stay for a bit. That's Goose Creek. The charm of the small Kentucky town invited me right in. The only thing I can say in a negative way was, I think the narration should have been done in two part by a gentleman. Sorry nothing against this one. Just felt so many of the characters needed a strong male voice to added in that deep southern gentleman feel it lacked. It kept throwing off the stride of the book for me. I could hear them in my head, their deep dry humor. Their weary expressions. Right down to the petulant face of Norman. That's the thing about audio. A narrator can make or break an awesome book just by the way they portrayed the characters. Now don't get me wrong this wasn't a disaster. I really like the strength and depth of the characters. The narrator did a good job of bringing that to life. I just think if you continue please consider adding in a male narrator for the men. I think you will find it gives your characters an added depth. I received this book for free in order to give an honest opinion. I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys lovely afternoons with charming people you would love to meet and share a cup of coffee with 😊.

Gentle Walk Through a Small Town

I really enjoyed this story a lot. It was a gentle character study of various people who all live in a small town in Kentucky where everyone knows everyone else's business. Really made me wish that I lived there. There weren't any murders, car chases or vampires, just normal people acting decently to one another. Very enjoyable.

The Most Famous Illegal Goose Creek Parade is a fun first book in a new series called Tales from the Goose Creek B&B by Virginia Smith. At first I thought this book was going to be part of a cozy mystery series, but instead, it is truly just a tale from a small hometown in rural America. While Goose Creek is set in Kentucky, it could be set in any one of the "red states" where almost everyone knows everyone else's business, or at least their mother, father, grand parents or cousins. Having grown up in West Virginia, I could easily relate. It also reminded me bit of the fictional town of Mayberry from the Andy Griffith Show from the 1960's with how quirky some of the characters are and how a few of their actions just made me roll my eyes and shake my head.

The story pretty much revolves around a controversy of who should paint the town's water tower. Many locals feel it should be painted by a local resident, while others want to accept bids for the job and pick the one that will be of a higher quality paint job than the last one. From the title, one can easily surmise that the situation culminates in a town protest over the water tower and an illegal parade through downtown. Two of the main characters in the story are Al Richardson and his wife Milli. Al is close to retirement and looking forward to feeling like every day is Saturday. Milli is currently a part time receptionist for the town's veterinarian, and she wants to buy an old Victorian-era mansion and turn it into a B&B. Like most of the folks in Goose Creek, Al is reluctant to accept change and tries to put up road blocks to buying the old home, but his attempts are thwarted at every turn.

I listened to the Audible version of this story narrated by Becky Doughty who did a wonderful job. Becky had great intonation and pace, and she had differing voices for both male and female characters. I'd gladly listen to another audiobook narrated by her. I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for a unbiased review.

A charming small town's story. It is refreshing to listen a book with quirky characters. It's also a good and clean book for me to listen as a Christian. This book make me laugh and smile. I loved the characters and their quirkiness. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.

Love this Little Town

Listened to the audiobook read by Becky Doughty. She does an awesome job. Thank you Virginia for your lovable characters, wonderful little town and for giving God the Glory. Its so nice to read a fun clean story. I can't wait for the next book in the series!
