Twenty-two year old Maris has a bright future ahead after receiving acceptance into the college of her dreams, leaving her protective brother Luka and the small bar he manages in rural New York State behind. However, her life takes a profound turn when a stranger attacks and bites her, activating dormant werewolf traits she had no idea existed.

As she flees home and uncovers her newfound abilities in a world completely hidden from her, Maris discovers Luka is the Bestial, an ultra-powerful werewolf who operates outside the law to take down criminals despite the Wolf Council’s objections.

Maris struggles to come to terms with the path her life has taken, along with strong feelings for a werewolf who she takes a blood oath with to protect her despite her brother’s disapproval.

And if that wasn’t enough, her best friend goes missing as they discover Kaser Odessa, a long-forgotten foe, is coming for Luka as he seeks out the Infinite Artifacts. These ancient relics thought to be the stuff of myth hold pieces of the Moonstone, the origin of werewolf kind. Activating a reassembled Moonstone could mean trouble for all werewolves, both those who know about their powers and those whose powers lay dormant, and all life as they know it.

It’s up to Maris and her friends to stop Kaser, find the artifacts, and discover what other abilities she has that will seal their fates forever.

Monsters, magic, werewolves, and a missing friend...can Maris make a difference as the world unravels out of control?

The plot itself was really good. It ended on a cliffhanger that left me waiting book two right away! It's a cool mix of Mortal Instruments and werewolves. Definitely unique. There were so many twists I didn't see coming and thoroughly enjoyed the storyline.

That being said I did notice some inconsistencies in lore around the consort bond that did catch me off guard and made me question if I heard things correctly.

One review I glanced at mentioned there being a lot of name that start with the letter D. I do agree with that review in that it was hard to keep them all straight.

As I listened to the audiobook I found myself wishing, more than once, that I physically read it. There were some words that the narrator pronounced that I wasn't sure what they were. And the accents she did for a few of the characters I found more annoying than helpful to the narration.

In all I definitely want to physically read book 2 when it comes out but I'm not 100% sure if I'll listen to it.

This audiobook immediately pulled me in, and a huge part of that credit goes to the narrator Tiffany Vanlandingham, who absolutely elevated the story. Her performance was excellent—clear, expressive, and emotionally grounded. She handled Maris’s confusion, fear, and growing strength beautifully, making it easy to connect with the character from the very first chapter. Each character felt distinct, and the pacing of her narration kept the tension high during action scenes while allowing quieter, emotional moments to really land.
The story itself has a strong urban fantasy premise: hidden werewolves, ancient artifacts, family secrets, and a powerful brother operating outside the law. Maris’s transformation and discovery of her lineage are engaging, and the world-building around the Wolf Council, the Moonstone, and dormant werewolves is intriguing. There’s plenty of action, mystery, and supernatural intrigue to keep things moving, especially as the threat of Kaser Odessa grows.
That said, while I enjoyed the journey, I wasn’t thrilled with how it ended. The “to be continued” conclusion felt abrupt rather than satisfying. Instead of wrapping up a major arc, it stops right as things were gettingintersections, which left me more frustrated than eager. I understand setting up a series, but I would have preferred it to have a fade out ending to lead into the next book.
Overall, this audiobook is absolutely worth listening to because of the narrator’s outstanding performance, which carried the story and made the characters feel alive. If you enjoy supernatural fantasy with werewolves, ancient magic, and high stakes, you’ll likely enjoy this—just be prepared for an ending that clearly expects you to move straight into the next book

A great read! I really loved the banter and character development as well as the modern werewolf story line.

The narrator of The Moonrise of Wolves, delivered. I genuinely enjoyed listening to their voice.

The story itself, though, didn’t quite capture me. There were a few promising moments where I thought, “Here we go, I’m about to be hooked,” but they didn’t last long enough to keep me fully engaged.

If you’re an audiobook listener who loves atmospheric fantasy, shifter lore, and slow-build worldbuilding, this may still be worth a listen for the narration alone.

Tropes: prophecy • found family • wolf shifters
Perfect for fans of: moody fantasy audiobooks, forest magic, and character-driven stories.

Overall I enjoyed The Moonrise of Wolves! Couple of funky continuity things and I definitely have some unanswered questions. But generally the story was fun ans engaging! There was a lot going on, especially towards the end, and I think most of my complaints stem from the narrator and the way she read the book. She had weird pacing in a lot of spots and I feel like a lot of times her intonation didn't fit what was going on in the book. It brought me out of the book a ton and I was scrunching my brows constantly.

I'll definitely reread The Wolves of Moonrise and however many sequels come, but I think I'll buy a physical copy instead.

Super fun story but slightly frustrating narrator
