A private detective working in Wilmington, North Carolina, is found dead in a gas-station restroom, apparently poisoned. But when her body sets off radiation alarms in the pathologist's office, suspicion falls on the nearby Helios nuclear power plant, a heavily guarded facility with supposedly fail-safe procedures.

As the FBI, local police, and the power plant's own security team investigate, ex-cop Cam Richter, head of the agency that employed the dead woman, begins his own inquiries. What was his detective investigating? And how could one person be poisoned by radiation without others being exposed?

Cam soon finds himself up against powerful forces that will stop at nothing to keep the plant's problems secret. The most vulnerable part of Helios is its "moonpool" - the radioactive storage pond that cools spent but volatile reactor fuel and must be kept completely full. Racing against time, Cam discovers an inside threat, a plan to use the plant's own systems to begin an unstoppable, disastrous sequence of events.

Outstanding

If you like Lee Child’s Jack Reacher you will enjoy Cam Richter. Can’t wait to start the next in the series.

These need to be made into a movie? Tom Cruise? You reading this?

Another Winner

P T Deutermann has quickly become one of my favorite authors, with plots set in unusual places and flawed but well developed and likeable characters. This one is no exception.

disappointing

I LOVE P.T. Deutermann, I have listened to most of his books in audio format. Perhaps because I have listened to so many, this one fell a bit short. I had to force myself to finish listening, since it seemed to drag on and on and on.

Perhaps his formula has become too predictable for me, it is too bad, I Loved the cat dancer series and Hunting season (my Favorite).

For the record, I will continue to listen to anything he publishes, but will stick to the books narrated by Dick Hill.

Killer book

As always another great piece of work by a brilliant person who can do a great one every time!!!!!

Not the best if PT Deutetman

Not his best but it did keep me intrtested. To much detail in thinks that just slowes the story down. But it is a fair listen non the less

First of all, "where is Dick Hill"? This narrator does a decent job but I purchased this book being it was next in line from a series I have listened to and enjoyed, in large part to Dick Hill's narration. I never looked at the narrator, wrongfully assuming it would be Hill. Oh Well... The story itself was OK but nowhere close to previous books in the series. Hoping the next in the series returns to form.

Great book!

Great book, love this series! I just downloaded Nightwalkers and can't wait. My favorite part of these books are his dogs!

Moonpool worked for me

What made the experience of listening to The Moonpool the most enjoyable?

PT Deuterman always weaves a fast paced story with subject matter that he has researched to make it believable. The nuclear industry material in this story had to be tempered, but the author made it into a great yarn, as he always does.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, with many plot twists. Unlike some reviewers I liked the detail, and never felt that the story bogged down in any way.

What does Mel Foster bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

While not Dick Hill, I would put him in that calibre of narrator - very enjoyable! My big reason for listening to books is so that I can multitask - like driving, painting, etc. This does not work for everyone....

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reaction - just fit in nicely with the rest of the series - and my wife and I have listened to all PTD's books!

Any additional comments?

A fun read (do I hear 'Hardy Boys" for adults?), and just what we like for escape reading - and we like PT's attitude about the decline of the USA. Hope that can be reversed....

Boring boring boring

The reader is also terrible. There are long detailed descriptions of nuclear plant inner workings. Who cares? Very cardboard characters. The best part is the ending— the intro of Kitty.
