The Memoirs of Doctor Creep

This is the voice of Doctor Creep! Barry Hobart was a broadcasting legend around Dayton, Ohio. He created the character of Doctor Creep and spent the next twenty years charming the audiences of children’s television, late-night horror shows, conventions, and live events. He used his popularity to run a charity that gave poor families food and gifts at Christmas. And for the last decade of his life, until his death in January 2011, I am proud to say that called me a friend. The one thing everybody who knew Barry would tell you is that he loved to tell stories. And they were great stories. And once he got started, nobody could stop him. He was hustled off stage many times at Wasteland because if somebody didn’t do it, you’d be listening to him all weekend! So I started my digital voice recorder running and asked him about his career, his character…and anything else he wanted to talk about. Barry’s stories deserve to be heard again and again, so here’s a transcription of the tales he told me that day in 2010. Yes, he really did cover all this ground in a single day. That’s how Barry was and that’s why we all miss him.
