Publisher's Summary

She wanted his baby: and he wanted her!

Meg McKettrick longs for a baby...husband optional. Perfect father material is gorgeous Brad O'Ballivan, old flame and new owner of his family's ranch in Stone Creek. But Meg, as strong, proud, and stubborn as her ancestors on Indian Rock's Triple M ranch, wants to do things her way: the McKettrick way. And Brad feels just as strongly about the O'Ballivan way.

Love, marriage, babies, and a lifetime to share: that's what Brad wants. Not a single night of pasion, an unexpected pregnancy, and a woman who won't budge. For a rugged rodeo cowboy who never gives up, it's a battle of wills he intends to win...and nothing matters more than claiming Meg's wild McKettrick heart.

Linda Lael Miller is the best

but, please, please, please, never use this narrator again. She can't do men's voices. Her voice is pleasant, but not for this!

Of Familial Ties, Ghosts, and Critters

Loving animals as I do I wanted to delve into this story as soon as possible. Animals are given pivotal roles and how they impact the decisions and lives of the characters in the story is woven seamlessly through the book. I enjoyed the different family members, with their varying "gifts" and how those gifts worked to further the story line and interactions of the characters was well done. I would have given four stars to this review, however, the narrator sounded lackluster and the "listening" of her narration seemed to move in slow motion. I was able to amp up the speed of narration and that seemed to help a bit.

Good story, bad narrator

I love Linda Miller stories becausethey are base on love and family. I only thing that kept me from enjoying this story is the narrator, she is talking to slow and whipsering. The only character that you can understand is Megan. My favorite is McKettrick Heart. I give this book a 3 because i just like Linda Miller.

so worthy a read!

although I have read several books by LLM I think this might be my favorite. I admit I have read some stories that follow this in the series as well as some books of the Creeds. maybe that is ehh I appreciate and recognize her unique style of introducing characters and stories that follow. LLM uses ghost and talking to animals, etc, that make her stories fun and hard to put down. i have listened (audible) to several over and over as i intend to do with this one. some of the descriptive narrative about the rescue of wild horses in the mountains contains adventure from horses to helicopter rescue. the style reminding me of Katherine Woodiwiss, which is a great and distinctive honor in my opinion. do yourself a favor and dive into the world of the modern day Mcketricks. and please read McKetrick stories in building an empire on ty he frontier, go back in time and join them as they carve a history that started this wonderful series.

Read the book instead

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

It would have been a 5 star review if Tom Stechschulte or Jim Dale or Davina Porter narrated it. This book wasn't her strongest one written but a strong narrator would have made it enjoyable.

Would you ever listen to anything by Linda Lael Miller again?

I love Linda Lael Miller and I own most of her books however, a poor narrator can ruin a book. I tried to read the Harry Potter series and I couldn't get past the first chapter. However I listened to them and to this day Jim Dale's performance is incredible. I have listened to the HP series at least a dozen times just to hear his narration.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator was dismal! She had very little inflection. She sounded like a drunk, breathy robot. She spoke too quietly. I turned up my volume on my headphones as high as they would go and I still couldn't hear well. There was no difference between characters. I had a difficult time knowing who the HELL which character was speaking. It turned out that I was so sick of the story that I didn't care if I missed any details. I never have to listen to this story again! I would return it if I could. I was so disappointed. I find myself more upset than I should be. The narrator can make or break a book and all the kings horses and all the kings men could not but this book back together again. I am listening to the series in order and I felt the need to listen to them in order but this is the exception. I will help future listeners, Meg and Brad get together now listen to the next book.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The McKettrick Way?

If I were editor I would have Linda start over and get a different narrator.

Great Story

I would have to agree that the narrator speaks too slowly. Otherwise, I loved it.

ok, but not as good as I expected and was surprise

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes because it answered questions from books that followed

If you’ve listened to books by Linda Lael Miller before, how does this one compare?

Since Brad plays such a prominent role in his sister's books I expected his own story to be even more superior to the others. Unfortunately, I just didn't think it was up to par.

Have you listened to any of Lauren Fortgang’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was the first I have heard, but hope it will not be the last.

Did The McKettrick Way inspire you to do anything?

I love the family characters, the way they stick together, stand strong for themselves and for each other.

Any additional comments?

I picked one of Linda Lael Miller's books by pure accident and am so glad I did. She has become one of my favorite authors. Her characters are strong but realistic. You can see the scenery, the houses, rooms and situations. Her plots and story lines are great and yiu fall in love with her humor. I REALLY like that while her books are love stories, I don't have to skip pages and pages of pure sex. She doesn't get down and dirty, she doesn't get so descriptive that the scene is ruined. Thank you for that.
