A brand-new production of Andy Weir’s modern sci-fi classic, narrated by the incomparable Wil Wheaton, and featuring bonus content from the writings of Mark Watney.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars.

Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there.

After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive.

Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills - and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit - he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?

Wil Wheaton, who has lent his voice to sci-fi blockbusters like Ready Player One and Redshirts, breathes new life (and plenty of sarcasm) into the iconic character of Mark Watney, making this edition a must-listen for both longtime fans of The Martian and new listeners alike.

BONUS MATERIAL: This edition includes the following extras:

  • “Diary of an AssCan” - Mark Watney, new astronaut
  • “I Made It!” - A happy letter to Mom
  • “Car Trouble” - A somewhat sad letter to Mom
  • “The Earthling” - A postscript. *Available for the first time in this recording

Wil is awesome but R.C. Bray’s version is sop darn good. I am not clear why a new narrator was needed.

Why a new version?

love the book. Wil Wheaton's narration is really bland. I originally listened to this book with the R C Bray narration, and I much prefer it.

I preferred the narration by R C Bray

What an incredible performance Wheaton gives here. It feels as if this story was written specifically for him to narrate. This was one of those rare books that completely surrounds me and swallows me up in its world. As far as I can tell this is Wheaton’s first performance as a narrator. Based on this I believe he will be doing many more and I for one can’t wait.

Wil Wheaton Is Amazing.

I first read The Martian in hard copy--I was given it as birthday present. Astounding piece of hard SF world building.

Some of my favorite worlds, I add additional versions to my libraries, to partake in a favorite world when I can't pick up my book or a tablet to re-read. Right away, I knew Weir's Mars was going to be one of those "rest of my life" worlds I love to revisit. But that first narration, which I heard part of on a long drive with someone....just didn't sound like the science nerd botanist I knew Mark to be. Bray is a very good narrator, but I just didn't believe his voice was that of a scientist. I decided that The Martian would remain on the page for me.

But this morning I saw this new release with WW narrating, and I grabbed it, downloaded it, and started listening within the hour. And MARK WATNEY'S VOICE IS IN MY EARS, finally,

Thank you, Andy. Thank you Wil. And thank you Audible. I will listen to this over and over--THIS is the wry, self aware voice the scientist who loves what he does, even as it's about to kill him.

FINALLY Mark sounds like a scientist!

Did I mention Narration. Great story with possibly the best narrator I have heard.......so far. The story was excellent for me as one of my few forays into fiction, and Wheaton kept me extremely engaged. The interaction narrative between the protagonist and the crew of Hermes, along with the ground crew offered much comic relief while also involving a simile of humanity. Although not a Scientist in practice, I loved the science along with all the problem solving and engineering. I shall now watch the movie.

Narration -Narration -Narration!
