The virtues Harriet possesses are far from fashionable, but Amy and Effy Tribble, chaperones-for-hire, feel confident that their new charge will attract a worthy vicar or two before the end of the season. First, though, they must vanquish confirmed rake and gambler Lord Charles Marsham, catch though he is, who seems perversely determined to woo Harriet.

Gentle Mrs. Budley thinks she has escaped her fate until Sir Philip comes up with a plan: He has heard that the elderly Marquess of Peterhouse is senile, a widower, extremely rich, and unlikely to remember whether Mrs. Budley is a relative or not. What scandal would ensue should society discover that the bejeweled heir to a royal throne was in truth Miss Felicity Channing of Cornwall, fleeing a match she did not want and that had been arranged by her conniving stepfather! Publisher's Summary
Miss Jennie Bemyss is in a position that any intelligent young lady would envy. The wealthy, worldly Marquis of Charrington has proposed a marriage of convenience that will leave him free to pursue his pleasures and leave Jennie free of his undoubtedly depraved desires.
At the same time, handsome, charming Guy Chalmers, whom Jennie has loved since childhood, proposes to aid her in enjoying her freedom to the fullest.
Jennie should feel happy to be ignored by a man whom she properly should despise. She should feel even happier to be courted by a man whom she has so long adored.
Why, then, does Jennie feel so confused?

Great Narration but Awful Heroine
The heroine is awful. I felt like she should be punished and doesn’t deserve anything from her husband. As though only with looks can a woman get away with anything.
