This Story Is Flirty

Publisher's Summary

As wild and reckless as the most incorrigible of her male cousins, young Amy Malory has reached marriageable age, and she has set her amorous sights on a most unsuitable mate: the handsome, straightlaced ship's captain who once nearly had her uncle James hung for piracy.

Warren Anderson is shocked by the brazen advances of his despised enemy's high-spirited niece. Still tormented by an unfaithful former lover's past treachery, he is determined to resist Amy's charms. But an overpowering yearning for the enchanting minx threatens to defeat his defiant heart and force its sensuous surrender to a love that could stoke the fires of a perilous family feud.

Those wonderful Mallorys

It's been years since I read all of the Mallory books by Lindsey and listening to them is even more fun. Warren's story has a few twists and turns and you wonder whether or not he'll ever give in....but Amy is a wonderful character and she wins in the end.

This reader is great. She captures the personalities of all of the characters without making James and Anthony sound like old geezers.

Almost perfect!

I love this book! Amy is definitely a Mallory, and Warren is someone to fight for. Narrator has potential, but please lose the sound effects. Chuckles and giggles do not enhance, but rather annoy. Also, James sounds like a crusty old man. NOT the way he's described in the book. Tony was done pretty well, and Amy and Georgina were fine. I'll surely listen again. All the Mallory books are worth repeat "reads."

NARRATOR REVIEW!!

I'm writing this review in a state of total confusion! Johanna Lindsey is great as usual, But that's not what this review is about.
I usually like Laura Merlington as a narrator. But this performance seems a total aberration!!! I think I would have noticed before if every laugh sounded like Santa Claus in one form of HO HO HO or another. HA HA HA, HE HE HE, HM HM HM, .... WHAT?! I REALLY mean WHAT!
I have never heard a more blatant performance mistake, forget one so often repeated that I cringed every time I thought a laugh was coming. Even giggles ended up being a feminine Santa parrody!

What really surprised me was that I had just finished a book which was beautifully narrated by the same performer and did not hear that flaw even once. I'm sure of it, I could not of missed hearing it, it is THAT bad!!!
So.... is it just this performance? Was this a early affectation that she corrected? I'm obviously confused.

I did something I never did before.... I skipped most of the book! We all know how a HEA historical romance ends.... but this time the last 45 minutes were important as I skipped the previous few hours...( I am planning on giving up or trudging through if I ever have that urge again.)

LISTEN AT YOUR OWN RISK.

STORYLINE: Sweet!
HEAT FACTOR: Steamy!
CREDITWORTHY? Questionable!

annoying

I am a big fan of JL books and the Mallory series but this one was bad. Amy is beyond annoying, she is like a modern day stalker. It is beyond unrealistic to be rejected so many times and yet remain so confident you are going to get your way. That plus the entire book hyped up all of the other characters more than the two stars of this one.

It is not the absolute worst read but it was close

DNF due to the narrator

This is the first Mallory book I’ve tried to listen to (I read them up to this one). I recently realized they were on Audible Escape so I decided to switch.

Frankly, the narrator’s voice came across as too old. Like having “grandma” read me romance. Can’t get past it. I’ll go back to reading.

I gave the story a generic 3 stars because the app forced me to. But I don’t really know as I didn’t get far enough to share an opinion.

Lukewarm

The story was lukewarm at best. Found it difficult to like the female character as she comes across as a stalker with a shallow personality.

Headache characters

Hope I don’t offend anyone but I don’t get this Malory family hype. So many of them make me so irritated. The male lead is an ass and the female lead is an immature bitch. I got so irritated when she calls a tavern bar maid a hussy for planning to sleep with the male lead for a few coins while that barmaid isn’t born with a gold spoon in her mouth while she spends all day arranging flowers and drinking tea with others and complaining about how she is old enough to have her own maid heather than share one. Then, just a moment later, she offers to sleep with the Male lead without marriage. She did not even know if she wanted to marry him because she did not ‘love’ him but is still trying to get herself compromised. He is like double her age and old enough to be her uncle as his sister is her aunt. The story is so boring. I stopped at about 60%. I was bored and infuriated at the same time and could not care less about the ending of these characters. It will obviously be a happy ending for them, not for me as my version of a happy ending is to send them and the rest of the malory’s to the moon. Not the best Johanna Lindsey. I prefer her Southern or her Cardinia series.
