Publisher's summary

Conor Maguire nearly lost his daughter Barb when she was three years old, injured by the drunk driver that killed his wife. When the justice system failed him, Conor - the son and grandson of IRA bombers - retaliated against the driver in dramatic and gruesome fashion. While an ironclad alibi prevented the police from pinning the murder on Conor, it did not prevent a covert agency within the US government from recruiting the talented young bomber and machinist.

For over 25 years, Conor designed and built custom weapons of death and destruction at his compound in the mountains of Virginia. Then a series of devastating terror attacks brought down the United States. Conor and Barb assumed they were safe in their secure compound. They had food and a water source. They were armed and highly-trained. Then Barb was kidnapped.

The kidnappers, needing slave labor for their farm, didn’t know why Conor was known as "The Mad Mick". They didn’t know the fear and respect his name invoked in the shadowy world of covert operations. They didn’t know that when it came to protecting his family, he was without conscience, without compassion, and without equal.

But they would soon find out.

Mad Mick is fierce!

I loved this character in Grace Under Fire and now I know more of his story. His daughter Barb is another of those strong females that Franklin Horton writes that would make any woman want to be her. I hope to hear more from Conor, Barb and Ragus one day. Thank you Kevin Pierce for another wonderful narration!

“MM” bring on more Mad Mick

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book, but I knew I loved the narrator so I gave it a try. My only disappointment came when I finished the book and found out there wasn’t a second one...yet.
The story kept me listening and the characters were well developed, so much so you actually want to see where their stories go.
The story didn’t focus on the apocalypse as much as most books like this do, instead it was more about the people and how they act in these situations.
Barb is a bada$$ and Ragus went from annoying to admirable, and Conner stayed the same from page 1 to the end. Loved it!

Satisfaction!

A great stand alone shtf novel without rehashing old news. Fantastic spinoff of Locker 9. Didn't want it to end and didn't want to put it down.

Entertaining Easy to Listen to Story

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This review is for the audio copy of The Mad Mick: The Mad Mick Series, Book 1, by Franklin Horton and narrated by Kevin Pierce. Book 1 of a series by one of my favorite authors and read by my favorite narrator set in an already established EOTWAWKI world. What else needs to be said, buy it, borrow it, but somehow get it and read/listen to it. That is all I have to say about it…

Compelling

Compelling narration of a great book. Kevin Pierce is truly the voice of the apocalyptic genre. He brings the books and its characters to life.

Escapism at its Best!

Mr. Horton, you craft a great story, I enjoyed the sub--stories that revealed more and more about Connor's character. As a behaviorist, I find myself analyzing thoughts, feelings and behaviours... any clue that gives me insight as to what motivates people. I find your characters have depth. I'm invested in their individual story arch, and ultimately how the overall story unfolds. I even find myself interested in the "bad guys" - learning about what brought them to this place in the story. So far you have not disappointed. All the characters are viable expressions of human nature. Thank you for good story telling.

Mr. Pierce, a sincere thanks to YOU for making these characters come to life. You have a true gift!

A Wild Ride

Great book. Love the return of The Mad Mick. Though this is a standalone recommend all of Franklin's books in this similar series. Learned a few tricks from this book.
