Her voice was a curse...

When Dylan "Oz" Oswin's son is kidnapped, the high-powered producer will do anything to get him back. Desperately following an anonymous tip, he seeks help from a former child singing sensation called Syrene, only to find she's vowed never to sing again. Immune to her voice but not her charm, Oz is convinced she holds the key to his son's disappearance - and he'll stop at nothing to make her break her vow. Only he can make her sing.... She knows the devastation her talent can bring. There's more than a child's life at stake, but Syrene cannot unleash her dangerous siren's voice upon the world, even for a man who is impossible to deny....

Extraordinary!

I highly recommend this magical continuation of the Malcolm series. These characters are simply magical, and the plots are imaginatively entertaining. The narration is very pleasant, and enhances the recording. Enjoy!

I could not follow this story line.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The story seemed overdone or in dire need of editing. The main lead came across as bipolar one minute and neurotic the next. I don't know about you but I like to image my self as the main character or at least someone I would want to hang out with. This female lead was sub par. The male lead never seemed to connect with her or was it just no chemistry ....no the chemistry was forced. Overall did not like the story as told.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I love a good love story no matter how the couple gets there. But would prefer to find authors who are not auditioning for playboy during the love scenes.

Would you be willing to try another one of Katina Kalin’s performances?

No, not interested.

What character would you cut from The Lure of Song and Magic?

Rewrite the lead female and give the male lead more insight. I have no problem with an alpha male but he had nothing to work with and by the middle of the story you were just as tired of him as you were of her.

Male lead is abusive.

The stalking is over the line. I will not read or approve of this awful romance theme ever again. A happy ending never happens in real life, and its just a lazy way to build a plot

Good

Good story with a hint of paranormal. The relationships are stormy and takes some getting used to but overall a good read b

Lure of Song and Magic

I enjoy the Malcolm and Gives stories. They involve some mystery and interesting characters. Somewhat the same but entertaining.

good story but,...

I think this could have been really good, but I couldn't get past the narrator. I only got into chapter 2 and then I gave up. It just got to be too much.

Proof of Ms. Rice's warped and wonderful mind!!

I like reading fiction that throws you for loops. This story has twists, turns and then the roller coaster started. This isn't a typical story like the others in the genre. It's just perfect!

A Gentle Story

This was an ok story which I liked. It never really achieved the suspension of disbelief. It was not overly compelling. I love the author, but feel my preference is for her Regency romance novels.

the magic singing totally confused me till the end

the storyline wasn't as strong but the love between them was beautiful. liked Oz because he was a realist like me and felt like philipa over something the syrene sing thing.
I listed book 3 first thus how l discovered the series and l wish they had introduced the book 3 brother here or something.
narrator was good but now l want to re-listen to book 3 and hear how she will distinguish the 3 ladies marrying the brothers. sorry I'm not good with character names.

Just a touch of magic

This book is a great story with a wonderful use of magic in the real world in a way that is not only plausible, but also possible.

Is it possible to come to terms with your own magical ability enough to be able to use it again? This is a question that Pippa has to answer if she is going to help Oz find his son.
Is it possible to find someone who dropped of the map 1 year ago, when the best people have already failed? Following the only good lead (though the definition of good in this situation may be a bit flexible) he's had since his son's disappearance, this is the question that Oz must answer if he hopes to find his son.

The author did a wonderful job with the characters in this book, and the slow revelations of the various mysteries surrounding Pippa's past and the disappearance of Oz's son are weaved together masterfully. The author also includes a romance between the two protagonists which, while not really surprising, has different qualities that are important to the rest of the storylines.

The only real complaint I have is the way in which some of the sexual encounters played out, with Oz taking on a dominating role and ignoring Pippa's protests. While it is true that Poppa can defend herself if she wanted him to stop due to her martial arts background, it us still a situation in which she has not given her consent and he proceeds anyway. While she does eventually give her consent, it's starts down the road of rape, and that's not a good look for the early days of a relationship that is supposed to be loving and romantic - especially when she describes him as being a bully in other interactions.
Now, all of that being said, it IS made clear before this point that she can protect herself very well (it is also mentioned during the scene) and she does give her consent before the sex actually happens, so it is NOT a rape scene. It is just a scene in very poor taste and I kind of wish the author would revise it.

As for the narration of the audiobook, I enjoyed it, though I did have to speed it up to 1.25x normal speed to get to a speed that felt like a comfortable pace. She did a good job with the narration, and I would gladly listen to another book narrated by her.
