Publisher's summary

Detective Angie Pallorino took down a serial killer permanently and, according to her superiors, with excessive force. Benched on a desk assignment for twelve months, Angie struggles to maintain her sense of identity—if she's not a detective, who is she? Then a decades-old cold case washes ashore, pulling her into an investigation she recognizes as deeply personal.

Angie's lover and partner, James Maddocks, sees it, too. But spearheading an ongoing probe into a sex-trafficking ring while keeping Angie's increasing obsession with her case in check is taking its toll. As startling connections between the parallel investigations emerge, Maddocks realizes he has even more than Angie's emotional state to worry about.

Driven and desperate to solve her case, Angie goes rogue, risking her relationship, career, and very life in pursuit of answers. She'll learn that some truths are too painful to bear, and some sacrifices include collateral damage.

But Angie Pallorino won't let it go. She can't. It's not in her blood.

Such is a sequel...

After I listened to the first book in this series, I immediately purchased and started listening to this one. It was a good purchase, but I found myself exasperated with the heroine’s attitude and disregard for advice/help. It was a bit like watching the screaming female in a horror movie as she runs into the closed, dark basement from the killer instead of to her running car outside.
There are some smart teasers and twists in the book that you won’t see coming and that make the story great.
Love that the narrator is the same in the first and second books. As in the first, she excels in the second with her voices, accents, and ebbs and flows. Really hoping she is on the 3rd book as well!

Fantastic second book in the series

I’m obsessed with this series! The first book was incredible. This book was awesome but not quite as good as the first. But it’s still a stellar novel. I cannot wait to read the third book!

I love the narrator’s performance. Exceptional performance!

Good book with great performance!

It’s a book with complex weaving of even complex characters. White has done reasonably good job tying all the ends . For me the book is five star because of excellent performance by Julie McKay .

LOVE

Cannot say enough good things about the Angie Pallorino series, the narrator did a great job speaking distinctly for all the different characters. Can't wait for the 3rd book.

Loved

I wasn’t familiar with this author before the previous book but as soon as I finished it I couldn’t wait to get into this one and I wasn’t disappointed.

Good Mystery

I enjoyed the first book in this series so I looked forward to the next. This volume seemed to develop a bit slowly at the beginning but it was needed to pick up loose threads of the first book and set up the ending of this one. I give the plot five stars, but the narration three. The male voices sound awkward and in conversations with several people it is often difficult to recognize which person is speaking. It was an enjoyable audio book nonetheless.

The Lullaby Girls

Loved the second book,so glad I read them both, so you could follow on from the first and you understand so much more. I definitely recommend this series. The narration was very good.
