Publisher's summary

Luck is no lady...in fact, she can be a downright bitch.

Jake:
Coming home was supposed to be my shot at redemption. Instead, I’m finding myself chasing after an irresistible blonde whose mercurial behavior could give Jekyll and Hyde a run for their money. I’ve got too much on my plate to get tied up in knots over a girl who wants nothing to do with me. But Bailey Murphy may hold the key to my redemption, and I’m not giving up on either without a fight. "Irish" might play with a poker face, but I’m about to call her bluff...and I hope like hell I’ve got luck on my side.

Bailey:
Let’s get one thing straight. I am not your typical girl. Sure, I’ve got all the parts, but I’ve been a stubborn, irreverent tomboy since the womb. Which makes it particularly ironic that my heart is so damn girly. It falls in love at the drop of a hat and leaves me to deal with the aftermath. But no more! If Jake Beckett thinks spending one night together gives him some claim on me, he’s got another thing coming - even if the mere thought of that night leaves me panting like a damn Labrador. I’m not about to open the door and let Jake in, but that choice may be taken from both our hands.

Sweet and sexy romcom

Such a sweet and sexy romcom! Here’s the story of Bailey–Nate’s sister–and Jake–Mark’s brother. They meet at Nate and Laney’s wedding, there are sparks, and they spend an amazing night together. And that should be the end of it.

But Jake has come back home to prove his loyalty to his family, and he is to a fault. And not only to his family. On the other hand, Bailey wants nothing to do with love and would like to forget her night with Jake, but he keeps reminding her. I loved how, despite having been intimate together, and after at least some deception–Bailey wasn’t acting like herself–they start afresh. There’s a lot of seduction and flirting and, of course, delicious banter–as only the author knows how to write.

There’s some input from their friends and families, so we get to see all the characters we loved from the previous books, and the whole group is delightful.

This book is sexy too–even sexier than the previous two. Their one night stand was scorching hot! And full of feelings too, proving that this is a swoony and sexy romance.

I was a bit let down by the narration though. It wasn’t exactly bad, but I felt all the hilarious lines fell flat. There wasn’t enough energy nor the right pace. I’d probably recommend reading it instead of listening to it.

The Lucky One

What a great book! I really like this family and friends and their closeness that they have with each other. Everyone is in everyone’s business and yet they all still get along really well. These two characters are really fun to see in action, with all the drama they create. Watching their walls drop and the willingness to let someone in was fun the whole time I listened.

Sweet, Hilarious and Steamy Romance!

I am having so much fun listening to this sweet, engaging, and steamy series and Bailey and Jake's romance was a complete delight! Bailey is just one of the guys. She is a stubborn, snarky tomboy with a tender heart and a passion for more than her families construction company. She is completely out of her element at her brother's wedding when she is forced to look all feminine making her feel brave enough to have a night of unbridled passion with her best friend Mark's, brother Jake. Jake is back in town to be closer to his mom and brother. He is totally captivated by the puzzle that is Bailey, and he loves all her different sides. Bailey doesn't feel worthy of an amazing man like Jake, but he soon wears her down. They are so much fun together with their push and pull, snarky banter, and explosive chemistry. I especially loved the hilarity of Bailey's babysitting scenes!
I enjoyed Meg Price's narration as she brought this story to life. Her accents were wonderful and I thought she really nailed these characters making me feel all their fun, awkward, emotional, and steamy moments.
I love Stewart's humor, and her easy ability to make these awkward and emotional stories feel real and authentic. This is a fun series with great characters I've come to care for and want to be friends with! I can't wait for more from The Carolina Connections!

Tomboys can fall in love

This one was hard for me to really get. I have trouble (even after all the explanation given by the author) believing that Bailey really didn't know that she was beautiful. I found Jake to be more believable and loved his attitude towards her. I found his unwillingness to actually believe the truth his brother was telling him funny since his younger brother was more mature and he obviously didn't understand or expect that. The end of the book was wonderful though I found the set-up for book four to be forced.

A single person was doing the narration and they did a good job of flipping between the voices and bringing each character to life. You felt their pain and confusion and doubt and fear. You wanted to know what happened next.

Bottom line: A great Sunday afternoon listen

A ONE-NIGHT-STAND COMEDY ROMANCE

THE LUCKY ONE is the third book in the Carolina Connections series and is a one-night-stand romantic comedy. Each story in the series is a stand-alone contemporary romance, but there are relationships that make more sense if you read them in the order of release.

First things first, I love the nicknames for both the guys and the girls throughout this series. I love when authors give meaningful nicknames that have something to do with the story that we’ve been given. I hope this trend continues.

I love Jake. He has flipped his life to return to the Carolinas and be closer to family. He’s starting over in his business and rebuilding. He may not have planned to also start a relationship, but once he meets his “Irish,” he doesn’t really hesitate to claim her. He’s all in.

Bailey is a tomboy. I can get it. It’s funny watching the tomboy having to deal with the girly stuff that is thrust upon her – dang emotions! Still, I had a hard time connecting with her. Her inner monologue reminded me too much of the “inner goddess” crap that came from 50 Shades. Eventually, I had to fall in love with her too. It just took me some time. That could just be me.

The humor is amazing. Sylvie Stewart (the author) is the friend you want around to lighten your day, every day. I’d never have a frowny day with her around. Instead, I can just listen to one of her books.

Narration: Meg Price did a wonderful job of performing the South Carolina accent. It made me homesick that was only home for five years.

Note: While I received this book as a gifted audiobook copy, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

Sweet Jake!

I totally fell for Jake in this one. He knew what he wanted, Bailey, and wasn't about to stop trying to get it ( her ). Bailey was stubborn though and it took some doing to get her to come around. They had a great connection/chemistry, lots of steam, humor, and a fabulous HEA. The narrator did a great job as well.

So lucky

I think I just found the perfect book boyfriend and I loved his choice of a girlfriend. She’s not a typical girl but her heart is fierce. I had a lot of fun listening to this book. The banter and the pursuit is very entertaining.

I love all the different couples in this series so much. I got really emotional at the end and almost shed a few happy tears.

More fun as an audiobook

The Lucky One, like the rest of the Carolina Connections series, is a lot more fun as an audiobook than when I read it for myself in print/ebook. I would have liked to have dual narration for dual first person POV, but Meg Price does a good job covering both parts.

Overall, I'd recommend this series. The Lucky One is a standalone with no cliffhanger and you could read only this one, but you shouldn't.

Can't get enough of this series 💕💕

It's Bailey and Jake's turbulent journey to love with lots of comical situations 😅and angst along the way. Sylvie Stewart knows how to draw the reader in from the beginning with all the familiar characters of the series playing their part. The great narration certainly brought life to the story and I'm looking forward to the next instalment where Gavin meets his nemesis.

I wish I could be so lucky

Bailey does not let others in. She is still holding on to her tomboy ways, but her heart is about to betray her. Jake is determined to break Bailey down. I love his nickname for her. It is so fitting, both fun and feisty. This is such a fun and light romance. Jake won my heart from the beginning and the chase really made the story so much fun. Bailey's hard to get attitude created a dynamic between her and Jake that I could not get enough of. It is the perfect laugh out loud romance that I could not put down until the end.

Meg Price is the perfect Bailey. Meg brings out the spunk and attitude of Bailey, exactly like I imagined her to be. Meg Price has a smooth male voice that was easily distinguishable. Meg has an easy to listen to voice, easy to follow and uses consistent different tones for each character. Through her narration, Meg helped me get lost in the story.
