Publisher's summary

1995, London. When Sir James Harrison, one the greatest actors of his generation, passes away at the age of 95 he leaves behind not just a heartbroken family but also a secret so shocking, so devastating that it could rock the English establishment to its core.

Joanna Haslam is an ambitious young journalist assigned to cover the legendary actor's funeral. The great and the good of the celebrity world are there. But Joanna stumbles on something dark beneath the glamour: the mention of a letter James Harrison has left behind, the contents of which others have been desperate to conceal for over 70 years.

As she peels back the veil of lies that has shrouded the secret, she realizes that there are other forces attempting to prevent her from discovering the truth. And they'll stop at nothing to reach the letter before she does.

Loved it!

This was the first book I've read by Lucinda Riley and it most definitely won't be my last! Even though it was a fairly long book, it kept my interest throughout and I couldn't wait to get back to listening to it! Lots of twists and turns, along with bits and pieces of historical facts about the royal family, a thoroughly enjoyable book!

Delightful book

A little romance. A mystery. England. Ireland. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I hated to finish it. And the audio performance was excellent.

Improbable propobalities

"Such things dont't happen, do they?" Probably not, but they make for excellent reading. I incidentally read this in the wake of the Queen's death.

Pleasantly Surprised

I mainly enjoy historical fiction, and this was a current mystery story based on past historical events. In essence, you really didn’t get to experience the world of ‘another age.’ Ms. Riley didn’t disappoint though. It was a slow start, and it took a bit of convincing to keep me listening, but it was well worth it! Surprising plot twists and unexpected events kept me wanting more. Great little story!

Sequel?

These stories are getting better and better! Do I see a sequel coming? I hope so. I really liked these characters. They were all believable. The the ending was perfect. Thank you Ms Riley for another great read.

A gripping read

This is my second book from Lucinda Riley and it was equally as exceptional as the first. The author wasted no words and everything is meaningful. I haven’t had such a great read in a long time until I came across this offer. Don’t hesitate!

Very good but...

Very good writing; talented writer, but too many things going on at once. Wish there were less characters and more concentrated character development and storyline. Too much unnecessary internal and external dialog and descriptions. Zoned out at some points.

The ending was really a shock--very satisfying.
