Publisher's summary

Don't look at Them. Never let Them know you can see Them.

That is Ethan Chase's unbreakable rule. Until the fey he avoids at all costs - including his reputation - begin to disappear, and Ethan is attacked. Now he must change the rules to protect his family. To save a girl he never thought he'd dare to fall for.

Ethan thought he had protected himself from his older sister's world - the land of Faery. His previous time in the Iron Realm left him with nothing but fear and disgust for the world Meghan Chase has made her home, a land of myth and talking cats, of magic and seductive enemies. But when destiny comes for Ethan, there is no escape from a danger long, long forgotten.

Great turn on perspective, gets a little dark

What did you like best about The Lost Prince? What did you like least?

I like the fact that we get the human perspective in this book.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The ending is dark and foreboding. Wish there was more time with the lead after the final show down.

What about Jake Lewis’s performance did you like?

Loved Jake's performance. I didn't notice the performance so much as I believed I was listening to the characters.

Any additional comments?

Great characters in this one. Love the view into the fey in our realm.

Really enjoyed this, but where is the next book?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would. As a matter of fact, I have.....the whole Iron Fey series as well as this new spin-off.

What other book might you compare The Lost Prince to and why?

I suppose the obvious would be Shakespeare's. Midsummer Night's Dream, although that is technically a play.

Which character – as performed by Jake Lewis – was your favorite?

Razor! He is so darn cute & Jake's narration just made him even more adorable!

Any additional comments?

First, let me ask - Where is the next book & why doesn't Audible have it already?! It makes zero sense to have the whole series & this new spin-off and not have the newest book, IRON TRAITOR. Very upset about this!

Ok, now that I have said my peace about that, let's move on. I really enjoyed this new spin-off! So glad to have all my favorite characters back and excited to see where things will go with Kierran (Meghan & Ash's son). While I absolutely enjoyed this book from beginning to end, I do think Ethan was just a bit too angsty for my tastes, but it seems like he grew quite a bit by the end of this book, so I'm hoping this is the last we'll hear of his brooding. :-) I think the narrator was quite good, though his mispronounciaton of Leanansidhe was a bit frustrating, especially since she is one of my favorite characters. LOVE her! Also, I wasn't crazy about his voice for Grimalkin either (I prefer Kristine Hvam's version of everyone's favorite kitty). Other than that though, I think he did the book justice. I am really excited to find out what will happen next. Over all, I would give this audiobook a B+. So Audible, when are you going to give us the next one? The paperback has been out for a year now. What's the hold up??

High hopes that were dashed

I downloaded this book because I had just listened to The Immortal Rules by the same author. I love The Immortal Rules and thought this book would be just as good...boy was I completely wrong. This book is about a 17 year old boy named Ethan Chase and he just so happens to be the little step brother of the Iron fey queen. Throughout the book you hear how Ethan is not getting involved with anything having to do with the fey. He's not going to make friends he's going to be a loner in order to protect everyone around him. This mantra is so frequently preached that it's annoying. Specifically when another boy comes to Ethan for help and Ethan adamantly refuses but then all of a sudden he accepts and helps the troubled boy? No one else can see the fey outside of "The Nevernever" and this stated many many times as well. It's an Emo roller coaster that never stops.

There were many contradictions and inner battles that made me want to smack Ethan up side the head and tell him to get over it. Help or don't help but quit saying you're not going to assist and then do it anyway but preach that you're still not going to help. I got half way through and wanted to stop listening but then decided to increase the reading speed just so I could say I finally made it to the end.

I'm seriously thinking of returning this book as I do not foresee myself listening to it ever again. I would not waste your credit on this book.

Great continuation

If familiar with series, a great continuation of the story. Good as a stand-alone, too.

Boring

Would you try another book from Julie Kagawa and/or Jake Lewis?

This book is poorly written and rather self-indulgent. It feels like the second in a series but without actually being so; the writer has clearly done this to build intrigue but it instead only annoyed me. Sadly it's not at all interesting enough to tolerate its many flaws. Couldn't even finish it; getting a refund.

Would you ever listen to anything by Julie Kagawa again?

Nope

What didn’t you like about Jake Lewis’s performance?

The source material and his whiny voice

What character would you cut from The Lost Prince?

the protagonist

Any additional comments?

Dont buy this; it's a waste of time.

Disappointing

What did you like best about The Lost Prince? What did you like least?

I liked hearing about Ethan's life after Meggie left for the Nevernever. However, I thought the author was rushed in writing this book. I love, love, love the Iron Fey series. This book did not have the depth of character that the other books had. I was very disappointed in it.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator was terrible. He mispronounced words and names and he was not able to change his voice enough to distinguish between the characters. Very disappointing performance. It appears he had not listened to any of the Iron Fey series - which would have been very helpful for him.

So excited for this series

I wanted to give this book 5 stars, I really did. There were just a couple areas of the book that I really didn't like, so it held me back. The first thing I didn't like was the type and style of language used by the high school antagonist. I found it offensive and unrealistic (though I haven't been in high school for a long time, so perhaps I'm wrong). The second, more important thing I didn't like is Ethan's internal monologue. There were several sentences that started with "What I wanted to say was, '...." The introduction to the internal monologue was jarring. There must be a better way to state someone is having an internal monologue. Also, some of the internal talk seemed like it would have been perfectly reasonable to say aloud.

The story - I loved the story. I missed Ash and Megan (wish there was more of them!) and was so happy to see Puck again! I can't wait to see how this story continues to develop. I find it difficult to believe Keiran believed what he did about The Forgotten, so I'm interested to see if there's a back story there. I also really enjoyed Kenzie's personality. I hope she's in the rest of the books!
