Story
Down there, beyond the deepest caves, below the crust and the mantle, there is another world. An old woman locked away in a Russian asylum has a secret - knowledge of a 500-year-old manuscript written by a long-dead alchemist that will show a passage to the mythical centre of the Earth. She knows it’s real because 50 years ago, she and a team travelled there. And only she made it back. Today, caving specialist Mike Monroe leads a crew into the world’s deepest cave in the former Soviet Union.

Story
There’s something growing deep in the old Angel Mine - something the Native Americans warned us about - And now it’s rising again. Mitch Taylor, ex-Special Forces medic, is seeking a quiet life in the town of Eldon. Tragedy has dogged his life, and he sees the small friendly place as a second chance. But buried deep below the friendly smiles and quaint painted houses is an old abandoned mine that holds a legend of an ancient and terrible god. In the mine’s labyrinthine depths, something has been growing, something from a time of myth when ancient gods strode the Earth.

The brightest light casts the darkest shadow. Shadows can obscure the worst of horrors. No shadow is darker than those cast by time. No horror is worse than vengeance. Retired Marine Sergeant Rick Eilerman thought his past was behind him. But that allusion breaks when armed men capture him and his girlfriend in the dead of night. After awakening on a boat, he is reunited with the same fireteam he commanded in the military. Very quickly, it becomes clear that someone chose them for a reason.

A journey into the deepest, darkest jungles of the Venezuelan Amazon...and a primeval place and time that mankind was never meant to exist in. Ben Cartwright, former soldier, home to mourn the loss of his father, stumbles upon cryptic letters from the past between author Arthur Conan Doyle and his great-great-grandfather who vanished while exploring the Amazon jungle in 1908. Amazingly, these letters lead Ben to believe that his ancestor’s expedition was the basis for Doyle’s fantastical tale of a lost world inhabited by long-extinct creatures.

Great Little Story
Well worth reading and highly recommended. I thoroughly enjoyed this short story, it had great characters and the story flowed nicely. Matthew Crow is an awesome narrator and once again he did a bang up job. IMO more authors should consider using Matthew, because so many great books are ruined by using the wrong narrator for that particular story. And so far everything I have listened to from Matthew has been enjoyable. I was provided this audiobook code for free in a promo, and I am also voluntarily writing this unbiased review.

Plan on leaving reality behind with this book
The author and narrator start off in a place of just another day working near the north pole and then they take your on a severe left turn from reality. The book is fast paced and has just enough reality kept in to make it believable as you travel along with the crew from the from the exploration ship. The emotions and greed are all realistic and keep you also grounded to pseudo reality. Looking forward to the next book in this series and listing to other books narrated by Matthew Crow.

Short and cliched
People get stranded on a lost island. Most of them get killed. It's like something I would have written when I was 12. It's nothing offensive, but nothing good or even fun either.

brilliant creature feature
I knew I would enjoy this book from the blurb, it sounded like the best creature feature on a Friday night.
The characters are well defined and I really liked that the two lead characters weren't forced into becoming love interests. it makes a nice change to let characters like that stand in their own right.
I thought the narrator did a brilliant job.

Listened in one sitting!
I LOVED this audiobook, if you enjoy dinosaur related booked, this is like Jurassic Park meets the Hunger Games, it was so enjoyable to listen to and kept your attention throughout with little twists and turns, I honestly didn’t want it to end. My only negative is that the book was long enough, I would have loved to have learnt more about the island and the creatures. I really hope there is a follow on book from this as I just want to hear more about everything!
