Publisher's summary

A New York Times best seller, Allison Brennan's The Lost Girls features FBI Agent Lucy Kincaid turning up the heat on a cold case....

Photojournalist Siobhan Walsh has been searching for two sisters who disappeared two years ago in Mexico, so when she receives a call from a priest in Texas about an abandoned baby holding a locket with her name, she calls her friends in the FBI for help. The infant obviously belongs to one of the sisters, but how did she end up in Texas? And why did she abandon her newborn?

Lucy Kincaid and her mentor, Supervisory Special Agent Noah Armstrong, track the missing girls and uncover a human-trafficking organization that leads to a seedy underworld in which nothing is as it seems. The bad guys seem to stay two steps ahead of them, leaving behind a trail of dead bodies and Lucy with more questions than answers.

Meanwhile Lucy's fiancé, Sean Rogan, has a crisis of his own. An old girlfriend returns with shocking news: Not only does Sean have a son, but Jesse and his stepfather have disappeared. The last thing Sean wants to do is leave Lucy when she's investigating a horrific case, but his son is in grave danger. Torn between impossible choices, he makes a decision that has far-reaching consequences for Sean, Lucy, and everything they hold dear.

Caveat emptor, waste of 15hrs

Would you try another book from Allison Brennan and/or Ann Marie Lee?

Not a chance. Hate is too strong a word, but I really disliked this book. It was...smarmy, extremely overacted by Ann Marie Lee, and the ending ensured that I won't be looking for the next chapter in the lives of these truly uninteresting characters.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

She (Brennan) was poised to do the right thing, but unbelievably took the smarmy route instead.

Would you be willing to try another one of Ann Marie Lee’s performances?

Nope

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disbelief. The characters went from superhero to major league loser and then back to superhero so often I just wanted the book to end.

Any additional comments?

Sad I used the credit

The narrator read like my second grade teacher. The story could have been great but was cheesy. I listened thinking it would get better, but it didn't.

Great story, terrible narrator

I liked the storyline, which shone a light on human trafficking. Glad the author didn't take too many liberties in the end, though it was still too smarmy for my taste. Adding a baby to the mix would've went too far. The story was repetitive in some parts, especially the two main characters' discussion about their relationship issues. When will the author or powers that be listen to the reviews and change the narrator? She is overly dramatic and sounds as if she's reading to an elementary class. I rolled my eyes at several points in the story because of her poor narration.

Disappointed

All my life I have forced myself to finish books. like or not. This was hard to do with this book, first of all for the story line it was much too long. Not enough contents, confusing story line, narrator not invested in the story. Actually, I am going to ask for a refund.Sorry, just did not hold my interest.

Easy listen, able to put down

What did you like or dislike? I overall enjoy this series and this author. That being said, it really dragged in some places. It took me several weeks to finish the audio version. I like to listen when I'm making a long drive to work but when it's a really enthralling book I usually buy both book and audio and toggle between the two. This one I was content to just listen over several weeks.

One huge distractor was the narrator. Her reading was so dramatic and so peppy I had to take a break some from that. I will probably avoid books with her reading in the future.

Otherwise, story was not very original and seat gripping but entertaining.
