Publisher's summary

Starship Victory, a faithful alien spacecraft guarding its shattered system for 10,000 years, agreed to come to Earth. Now Captain Maddox and his crew have a new assignment. They must find Professor Ludendorff before the New Men do.

The New Men need Ludendorff's help so they can capture the alien starship. Maddox needs the neglected superweapons repaired so he can rescue a Star Watch fleet trapped deep in enemy territory.

But time is running out for the stranded, battered fleet. They're low on food, fuel, and missiles. Worse for Maddox, Meta is missing, kidnapped by the enemy, while the alien personality in the AI struggles to adjust to this new era. Can Maddox pull everyone together or will the brilliant New Men win yet another stunning victory? The Lost Command is the second book in the Lost Starship series.

Good story

I really am starting to enjoy this series. Great storyline... And, a swashbuckling adventure with interesting characters who are developing in depth in this second book. If you liked the first book (I did.) then you will find this one even better.

Great listen...

Narration was especially good. Mr. Boyer is very talented.

I liked this book even better than the first. That might be because I'm more invested in the characters now, but I do think Heppner has done a fantastic job writing this book. I often find myself bored with many writers because of too much fluff and being way too verbose in their writing. That isn't the case with Mr. Heppner and I look forward to the next volumes..

Decent story ruined with new narrator.

If you could sum up The Lost Command in three words, what would they be?

don't change narrators

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The first book in the series had a distinctive narration style. Mark Boyett is fine and I've listened to many of his narrations but all of his deliveries sound the same. I couldn't tell if I had accidentally purchased another Star Force book. The narrator swap was disruptive and disappointing.

Any additional comments?

If you listened to the first book you may or may not like the new narrator. If you liked the first narration then you might not appreciate this one. Riker sounds like a whiny baby instead of a seasoned vet. If you have listened to other Boyett books this sounds exactly the same.

10 Times Better Than The First Book

The narration by Mark Boyett made this well written space opera far exceed the authors first book in this series. V. Heppner's writing style has also matured. This is a great book. I am on to the next one. Please do not stop using Mark Boyett!

Thank you Mark Boyett!

I was ready to write off the first book as a fluke after the dreadful performance of the narrator. The narration in book is 100 times better. I am looking forward to the rest of the series now!

Miss some of the old voices, others Great!

Both the old and new readers were great, Mark's descriptive reading is way better, but I do miss the original voices.

Stellar! 5Star story with 5Star performance

This book kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire duration, from beginning to end. Despite my health worries about such an intense adrenaline high, I confess to easily putting such worries aside in my haste to get to books3&4 of the series and reread book 1!
