THE WORLD ENDED quietly, marked by the loss of Fort Liberty, their town of Woodridge, Illinois, and ultimately their parents. With only one clue about the whereabouts of Travis and Melody's mother, Billy and his friends, Jimmy, Travis, Melody, Sarah, and Megan embark on a harrowing journey across the Midwest toward Chicago.

Along the way, however, they must face numerous obstacles, including hostile militia members with unwholesome motives, a mad scientist with a God-complex, severe weather, illness, alien threats, and kidnappers. If this wasn't bad enough, however, a mysterious cloaked figure now pursues them, their motives unknown.

If Billy and his band of high school friends hope to reach Chicago alive, they'll need to rely on more than each other; they'll need to rely on an unsuspecting ally—the alien that doggedly hunted them in the forest five nights before civilization collapsed.
