Tarn fights a losing, agonizing war against his own localized biology—a suppressed failsafe triggered by the storm that demands he claim the chaotic, resilient human as his mate.

But the corporation hasn't forgotten their missing weapon. When a hard-coded trap in the cipher-drive summons a heavily armed retrieval strike team to their door, Tarn and Sarah must decide what they are willing to sacrifice: their hard-won isolation, their carefully constructed defenses, or each other.
