Publisher's summary

The second and final book in the Master of Trickery Duet!

"Must be brave, stubborn, and impervious to the tempers of loved ones".

The first line hissed with history.

"Hours are endless, pay is non-existence, quitting absolutely forbidden".

The second line ached with truth.

"Able to function on no sleep, refrain from running when times get hard, and be more than just a living canvas but a lover".

The third thrummed with honesty.

"Other attributes required: forgiving, opinionated, and not afraid to tell me when I'm wrong. Must also enjoy being touched and kissed at any time of my choosing".

The fourth glowed with promise.

"Call or email "your heart, his soul" if interested in applying."

The final made my future unfold.

The advert was so similar to one I should never have applied for.

A twist of fate that brought two destined people back together.

A job I would take in a heartbeat if the employer could offer such terms.

But I wasn't free.

Neither was Gil.

Therefore, my interview could never happen.

Emotional and captivating story!

I recently listened to The Living Canvas by Pepper Winters and devoured it. Narrated by Will M. Watt and Felicity Foster and is book two in the Master of Trickery Duet and continues Olin and Gil’s story and again, had me captivated from the start. Their journey was not an easy one and you must read book 1, The Body Painter, before reading this one. We pick up after the ending of book 1 and be ready for quite the ride. Olin has lost trust in Gil, where does that leave them? So many things happen and the story was full of twists and turns. Gil broke my heart. He went through so much and was still trying to find his way. Olin was devastated and yet loved Gil. They had so many obstacles to face and the suspense kept me at the edge of my seat. It was emotional, full of angst and I could not stop listening. .

Happy listening!

Great ending to the duet!

“If I stood any chance of finding who I truly was, I had to open my wings.”

This was the second book in the Pepper Winters duet and it did not disappoint. I listened to the first book in audio as well so the narration was still perfect. Both narrators put Medication right into the book and I forgot it was just a book! The last book left on a huge cliffhanger and I really had no clue how this book was going to work. I loved how the author constructed the conclusion and how not everything went easy like it does in some books. Real life consequences happened and it truly was nice to see. Olin drove me insane a little in this book because she did a complete 360 from book 1 but it was understandable why she acted the way she did. I really enjoyed these books and will definitely be checking out more Pepper Winters books! I am so glad I listened to tases in audio because I just loved the narrators. It truly is a heartbreaking duet and you really do feel so many emotions listening to these books.

Dark, dangerous, and scorchingly hot

Continuing essentially where the first book left off, Gil and Olin find themselves as unwilling and terrified pawns in the games of a sick madman. Gil, desperate to protect his daughter, and Olin, just trying to survive, they are fighting their reality as any hope of them having a future comes crumbling down around them.

There are so many twists and turns to this story that it is constantly keeping you on edge, guessing where it’s going to go next. And the emotional rollercoaster is now at full speed ahead. For Olin, even though she can fully understand why Gil is making the decisions he’s making, she’s still devastated. For Gil, he is torn between the worst of circumstance he would have ever imagined himself in, and desperately trying to protect those he loves. The intensity of their situation seemingly telling both of them that maybe what they truly want, each other, just isn’t going to be possible.

While this does get to a HEA in the end, it is a rough road, to say the least. The dark, depraved things that Gil’s uncle subjects them to cause deep scars, and the healing process is anything by easy. But ultimately, the depth and strength of their love will win out. I was fully engrossed in this book right from the start, and straight through to the end. A great duet that leaves you emotionally spent.

A Great Listen

I received a copy of this audiobook to review for Stephane's Book Reports.

This book is filled with angst Gil has grown up bing the son of a whore whose name he never knew and a father who beat him into submission. HIs teacher was not help and betrayed his trust in a way that just made me want to rage. He was in love with Olin and loved her more than anything in the world and then he lost her and had to watch as she fell in to Justin's arms. But when Olive came along she became his world and he could have supported her and keep there head above water with his painting but the world had other plans that he never saw coming. Now Olive is gone and the man who has her wants money and a lot of it. It caused him to get the money in a way he didn't want to but he would do anything for Olive. There is a lot that goes on in this book and I fell like if I keep telling little snippets of it then I am going to ruin something for someone. I loved listening to this book and thought the narrators did an amazing job.

Oh Gil & Olin!

I was hesitant to give the second book a try after the first one played such a ‘cat and mouse’ with them getting a first kiss in adolescence, but I’m glad I did! The first book left you with such a pit that needed to be filled and The Living Canvas filled it!
It was such a good story and it kept me wanting to finish it!

What a finale with Gil and Olin

The conclusion of the Master of Trickery Duet is a roller coaster of everything that makes up an intense dark romance that gives readers the answers they were craving when the first book ended. It is not a standalone and I will advise those with triggers to proceed with caution. Pepper Winters is a queen when it comes to writing these emotional angsty storylines that will have listeners on the edge of their seats as Gil and Olin are put through their paces. There is so much action and drama that takes place that it will gut you and heal you when all is said and done. Will M. Watt and Felicity Foster do an amazing job bringing these characters to life and I cannot get enough of Will’s accent. This is one audiobook that will suck you in and not let you go. It is not to be missed.

Emotions a plenty

This is the conclusion to the Master of Trickery Duet and all I can say is wow. Not sure if I can prepare you for this. Pepper Winters blows me away with her stories and this is no exception. It will tear you apart and maybe put you together. Just be prepared. Emotional is a definite understatement. And of course, once again, Will M. Watt & Felicity Foster were amazing.

Absolutely amazing!

Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆ Spice: 🌶🌶🌶

Angst: 💣💣💣💣 Plot: 📚📚📚📚📚

Cliffhanger? ❌️

Do I recommend? ✅️!

Trigger Warnings: ☠️ ☠️ please educate yourself!

Tropes: dark romantic suspense

After the shocking cliffhanger in the last book, I didn’t see how Gil and Olin could possibly win their HEA. The opening of this book picks up right where that left us. Can Olin grant the ultimate forgiveness? Will Gil save Olive and rid his uncle from their lives? Sweet Olin has finally reached the point of no return. No one could blame her if she turned her back on Gil. Pepper Winters will keep you constantly guessing and hoping everything will work out. I stayed on the edge of my seat until the very end.

I listened to this audiobook as well. I fell even more in love with Will M. Watt's voice and ability to narrate. Not to leave out Felicity Foster because she was amazing as well. They deserve way more than five stars for their performance and so does the author. Incredible duet! This is my honest opinion, freely given.

A Rushed Conclusion

The Living Canvas concludes the duet in a rushed, yet somewhat satisfactory manner. Yes, the narrative did tie up plot points, but the execution was a bit lackluster.
