Surperb acting by Sri Gordon!!

Han's Christian Anderson's version is not the Disney version. Hans books are sometimes a bittersweet pill to swallow and therefore geared more towards adults than children. The little mermaid is no exception. After leaving her beautifully, scenic home for a prince she realizes the grass isn't always greener. This melancholy version is certainly not the happy ending Disney put out, but nevertheless still a beautiful classic. I was given a free copy of this book at my request and have voluntarily decided to leave this review.

Imaginative and Magical

This story of The Little Mermaid is a beautiful tale of a young mermaid princess and her love for the prince she rescued from a shipwreck. The audio version is well worth a listen just for the detailed descriptions of life under the sea. It's imaginative and magical. It's very different from the Disney version, and the two really can't be compared.

The narration was done well. Sri Gordon doesn't dramatize the story, she lets the listener interpret the emotions the author intended. She gave each character their own speaking voice, and immersed me in the story. It's a lovely quick listen.

Well-narrated, classic tale.

Much, much darker than Disney’s version of course, but not nearly as dark as some of his other tales. A classic tale … just maybe not for people looking for happy/light fairtales. Not nearly as trippy as some of his other works too, more plausible.

I listened to an audiobook of this, narrated by Sri Gordon. This was very well done, would absolutely listen to more from her. She doens’t really ‘perform’ the book, but she has a very pleasant voice and reads it very well.
4-star performance.

Forget Disney - this get's dark

While Disney probably have the most well known version of 'The Little Mermaid' it diverges significantly from the original Hans Christian Andersen tale. Disney and HCA start similar enough - a mermaid falls in love with a human and trades her singing voice for legs. It's from this point the stories diverge with Disney taking a much more upbeat approach, while the original tale descents into a fairly dark morality tale (with a last add on paragraph that redeems the character's choices and lightens the story, slightly).

So even if you know the Disney version really well, it's worth visiting the original and seeing where it came from.

Sri Gordon does some good voice acting for the short story, providing voices, emotion and interest to the characters. She is well paces, easy to listen to and overall enjoyable. A good reading of the quick tale.

Great story. There should be a movie!

Disney has never done these old stories justice. This one ends a little bit more moralistically than it needed to, but it is a ripping good story. The narrator did a fantastic job. What are you waiting for?

Nice Children's Book!

As other reviewers said, Hans Christian Anderson's story is darker than the Disney version. It also has a very different and not so happy ending. It is still a charming tale and you and your family will enjoy the original. It is nicely read by Sri Gordon. I was gifted a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Wonderful book for all ages

With a great performance by the Narrator this Audio Book can be enjoyed by every listener.


It is short and will be entertaining for all who download this book.

Excellent telling of the classic

This is a beautifully read production of The Little Mermaid, great for putting kids to bed. It's a classic tale by Hans Christian Andersen that was well read in this production.

It's short, but well told, and an important classic fairy tale for kids. I recommend it.

Not your Disney version of the Little Mermaid

If you're looking for a cute quick listen for your little ones, this is not it. However, if you are looking for a more grown up version of the Little Mermaid, you've hit the jack pot.

I really enjoyed this listen of the Little Mermaid. It deals with everyday life and death events.

The narrator is did a superb job in narrating.

Sri Gordon gave a wonderful performance of the classic Hans Christian Anderson tale. Be warned that this classic is darker than the happily ever after Disney version.
