Publisher's summary

Come hell or high water, Emmy Jo Massey will have a wedding. After three generations of Massey women with children out of wedlock, she wants the whole town of Hickory, Texas, to witness the legitimacy of her union with Logan Grady. But dream weddings aren't cheap. So she accepts a highly lucrative stint as a home health assistant to retired realtor, and town recluse, Seth Thomas - a decision her great-grandmother Tandy is dead-set against.

Seth isn't happy about it, either. The eighty-two-year-old doesn't want a "babysitter" - much less a Massey - something he makes clear when Emmy arrives at his house, an empty mansion built for the woman who broke his heart. But as Emmy stays and the two eventually open up to each other, she learns the reason behind a feud between Seth, Tandy, and Logan's grandfather Jesse Grady that goes back six decades. She also uncovers a secret that forever changes how she sees her past and her future...

I Love Carolyn Brown’s Books about Texas!

Love Carolyn Brown’s Books about Texas! And Lilac Bouquet is one of those great Texas tales. It rings so true that it could easily be non-fiction. And nd could equally take place in each readers’ hometown! Hate, gossip, and small town bigotry runs rampant. Characteriization is excellent.

The triad of background elements include a hierarchy of Southern preachers practicing hate, rather than forgiveness.... A real estate mogul turned recluse. And, an crotchety old woman who had already raised three generations. the young people who try to right it...well, you know the characters of each person so well, that the reader can empathize and cheer as each little breakthrough takes place.

Emmy Jo and her fiance Logan have been going together through high school and the four years he went to college. But, they get caught up in a three-way feud that has gone on for more than sixty years. The only hope for this couple is to discovery why each party hates the other two.

I found myself sitting center stage cheering for these two and for all they stand. The wonderful narration by Brittany Pressler brings the pages to life!!! I could not put this book down! I recommend this excellent novel!

no secrets

WAS an interesting start but then it became like following a recipe "and the fairy godfather _ kind of took over and "All she ever wanted was magically true" From a smart mouth strong girl , to an oh my how wonderful it all is?? A little disappointing .

Excellent

I enjoyed this story from beginning to the end . This story was about a real family and you felt like part of it .
Hooked me from the beginning.
The narrator was wonderful and I didn’t want to put it down. I listen to audiobooks because my life is so busy and I am able to listen to a story like this on the go.

Delightful!

Lovely story and narrated well. I typically go for literary fiction and the classics. This novel was well written, had a lighter feel to it compared to my preferred genres—but was definitely NOT fluff! A nice break from more densely written books or those more somber in tone. Yes, the overall arch of the story did begin to reveal itself early on. Yet I remained intrigued while, like Emmy Jo, I was trying to figure out the details of a complicated, multigenerational mystery, learn the painful stories of a time gone by, and watch Emmy Jo’s relationship with Seth gently transform over time.
