The New York Times Bestseller

“An odyssey of action and awe.” —The New York Times

“A wry and tender love-letter to the best of being human.” —Benedict Cumberbatch

The remarkable next novel from Matt Haig, the author of #1 New York Times bestseller The Midnight Library, with more than nine million copies sold worldwide

“What looks like magic is simply a part of life we don’t understand yet…”

When retired math teacher Grace Winters is left a run-down house on a Mediterranean island by a long-lost friend, curiosity gets the better of her. She arrives in Ibiza with a one-way ticket, no guidebook and no plan.

Among the rugged hills and golden beaches of the island, Grace searches for answers about her friend’s life, and how it ended. What she uncovers is stranger than she could have dreamed. But to dive into this impossible truth, Grace must first come to terms with her past.

Filled with wonder and wild adventure, this is a story of hope and the life-changing power of a new beginning.

I have enjoyed Matt Haig's previous novels, and wanted to enjoy this book, but had to force myself to finish it. I found the main character unlikable, and while I enjoy the narrator as an actress, she was doing a whispery type voice for the main character that didn't help me like her any better. The supernatural elements were fine, but the character's constant pity parties and reciting math theories were additional layers that grated on my nerves.

Listen to the preview and if you like it, enjoy the book. Otherwise, this might be better in print.

I wanted to like it, but it wasn't for me

I liked it all right. I like the environmental protection element that the characters took on, but I did kind of have to slog through it.

It’s ok

I listen to so many books in the last 10 years, that I forget most of them. this one at the end made my throat tight and made me cry. it made me feel things and believe things and no things that I never thought of before. this ending was probably one of the best endings of any book but the whole story is magnificent. one of my favorites

one of the best

Entertaining story with interesting characters and beautiful descriptions Much too mystical for my personal taste.

Mystical ~ Dreamy

Like a few others have said, this one didn’t quite resonate with me as much as The Midnight Library. I’m biased, as Midnight Library is in my top 5 favorites.

I understand Matt’s intent and the symbolic allegory of this book. However, the actual “story” the message is wrapped in just wasn’t as interesting. I spaced out for a few minutes a couple of times while listening and didn’t even rewind.

Still a Matt Haig fan though!
