  • Former Marine Corps Helicopter Pilot- Cockpit injuries, Toxic Masculinity & Post Traumatic Stress
    Oct 22 2021

Rob is a friend of mine from Ohio State, and after graduating with an Engineering Degree in 2004, he spent 10 years in the United States Marine Corps as a Helicopter Pilot. He deployed to Iraq once in 2008 and Afghanistan twice in 2010 and 2012.  Each combat deployment was 7 months long and during those deployments he saw many horrible things, but is also so proud of the many awesome things he and his fellow Marines did while deployed to combat. When he got out of the military, he settled in Ohio with his family, where he continues to overcome lower back and shoulder injuries, as well as diagnosed PTSD. Notably, he refers to his Post Traumatic Stress and drops the last word, disorder as he considers it another treatable injury for him to continue recovering from. Managing his service connected injuries has been difficult, but Rob has made major breakthroughs in his self care over the past 2 years through yoga and therapy.

  • Erin Cymrot- Miscarriage & Maybe, Maybe-Not Motherhood
    Oct 22 2021

Erin Cymrot is here talking about the delicate subject of miscarriage. As a fifth grade teacher, Erin spent her mid-30s going through the emotional roller coaster of trying to decide if motherhood was the right path for her. At the age of 37 she experienced a miscarriage, and became part of the 25% of women who have one. Even though it’s so common, many women often go through it alone. Furthermore, society sends the message to them that motherhood is the path we should all be on and it's what will make us a "real" woman, or a "fulfilled" woman. Only recently has it started to become more acceptable to say "I choose not to be a mother." Erin believes that there are a lot of women out there just like her, who live in a grey area of not being sure of the right path for themselves, and that this type of doubt doesn't get talked about often enough. She hopes that by speaking about miscarriage and the desire, or lack of desire, for motherhood, it might help others feel seen and supported in their own journeys.
