Publisher's summary

Tom Mison, star of the hit Fox series Sleepy Hollow, narrates the classic Washington Irving short story.

In the secluded Dutch territory of Sleepy Hollow, nebbish schoolmaster Ichabod Crane competes with the town hero for the hand of Katrina Van Tassel, the 18-year-old daughter and sole child of a wealthy farmer. As Crane leaves a party at the Van Tassel's farm one autumn evening, he is pursued by the Headless Horseman, an apparition said to be the ghost of a Hessian trooper snuffed out by a stray cannonball during the Revolutionary War.

Critic reviews

"Tom Mison's voice is delicious. His precise British diction allows listeners to savor Irving's sumptuous descriptions and sly humor. There are many pleasures to be found in Mison's rendition of the brief classic story, though a few instances of Irving's casual racism grate on modern ears. Listen for yourself and discover why it has so captured our collective imagination. (Mison himself stars in Sleepy Hollow, the current TV incarnation.) Whether you're familiar with the original story of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman or not, Mison's reading is a gratifying way to experience it." ( AudioFile)

American History

The main reason to read this is for the American History. This gives a good look at what life was like for Teachers in early America. The horror itself is not so much, more of a fun prank that scared our main character.

A nice thrill

A good free read best suited for any late night gathering of friends particularly camping trips or cabin stays. We turned this story on as we were about to fall asleep and needed something to distract our thoughts. This book provides ample material to keep friends up at night.

loved the narration of this classic tale!

I do hope to see that Tom Mison continues to narrate. He is a sexy man with an equally sexy voice. Thank you for a great performance!

Why is this a classic??

The narrator was great, but the story is pretty boring, meandering through pages and pages of description (and sadly no real dialogue), only to end with unanswered questions and mere speculation. I'm really glad I got this title for free.

Classic

A classic read well. Great book worth getting. The narrator has a really neat British accent which complements the story nicely.

More of a comedy

What did you love best about Free: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow?

The classic tale of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman is surprisingly funny in its original form, narrated perfectly here by the same actor who plays Crane in the new TV show.
