Publisher's summary

From Icelandic author Yrsa Sigurdardottir comes a thrilling and unique audiobook - the first in a stunning new series from the author of The Silence of the Sea, winner of the 2015 Petrona Award for Best Scandinavian Crime Novel.

The only person who might have the answers to a baffling murder case is the victim's seven-year-old daughter, found hiding in the room where her mother died. And she's not talking.

Newly-promoted, out of his depth, detective Huldar turns to Freyja for her expertise with traumatized young people. Freyja, who distrusts the police in general and Huldar in particular, isn't best pleased. But she's determined to keep little Margret safe.

It may prove tricky. The killer is leaving them strange clues: warnings in text messages, sums scribbled on bits of paper, numbers broadcast on the radio. He's telling a dark and secret story - but can they crack the code? And if they do, will they be next?

The Legacy is the first installment in a fantastic new series featuring the psychologist Freyja and the police officer Huldar.

Well written but horrific murders.

Not a fan of going through a horrific, tortuous murder, step by step with a powerless victim, so I fast forwarded past ensuing murders after number one. Regardless, the interesting characters and plot kept me engaged until the end. Well written and performed, but for me, novels of this type won’t be in my future reading as they are too dark.

Horrible pronouncing of Icelandic names

Entertaining sorry but put off by the fact that the narrator seems not to haved use 5 minutes to get Icelandic names phonetically right... not even in the same ball park.

Yrsa has done it again!

Once again this Icelander has spun a tale that is almost impossible to set down. The murder methods employed are not for the weak at heart but her characters are fully developed and great to know. Can't wait for her next one!

Absolutely PERFECT in EVERY WAY

Albeit the manner of death is hair raising, such a well-crafted book (don't start unless you have the time to be completely captivated; it is a book that is difficult NOT to greedily consume in one sitting). Thrilled to have discovered this author, and if you like your police procedurals PURE (rather than the chick- lit romance slash mystery light books that are the norm these days) you will be thrilled too! The only negative is that precious few have been translated to English, and even fewer recordered as Audible selections, so you have the choice. of either gorging on these few as if at a Thanksgiving feast or parsing them out slowly as if consuming. a box of your favorite chocolates one-by-one. the same negative exists despite which option you chose, you come to the end of this rare fare FAR TOO SOON.Herald the new queen of the crime thriller, this wonderful author!

Very good story; lots of blah blah

I really liked this story and felt it was original. The characters were interesting and pretty well drawn out. The only thing I didn’t like was all the unnecessary verbiage. It seemed there were paragraphs that could have been cut that didn’t really add anything to the story.

The narrator was great!

Dark Nordic mystery at its best

An engaging Icelandic mystery. The translation is it not too clunky, and the narration is good. The characters are interesting, and the mystery is complex and well developed. Looking forward to the rest of the series!

Another FANTASTIC read from Yrsa!

Loved, loved, loved it!

I laughed. I cried. I enjoyed this book and Lucy's narration was excellent. I can't wait to read The Reckoning: A Thriller.
