Publisher's Summary

From the Queen of Crime, the first time all of her spookiest and most macabre stories have been collected in one volume.

‘From behind the curtains there still sounded the terrible high long-drawn scream - such a scream as Raoul had never heard. It died away with a horrible kind of gurgle. Then there came the thud of a body falling....'

For lovers of the supernatural and the macabre comes this collection of ghostly and chilling tales from Agatha Christie. Acknowledged the world over as the undisputed Queen of Crime, in fact she dabbled in her early writing career with mysteries of a more unearthly kind - stories featuring fantastic psychic visions, spectres looming in the shadows, encounters with deities, eerie messages from the Other Side, even a man who switches bodies with a cat....

This haunting compendium gathers together all of Christie’s spookiest and most macabre short stories, some featuring her timeless detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. Finally together in one volume, it shines a light on the darker side of Agatha Christie, one that she herself relished, identifying 10 of them as ‘my own favourite stories written soon after The Mysterious Affair at Styles, some before that’.

An excellent book

This collection of short stories, were a God send, as I was confined to my bed, over a couple of weeks. although I had heard a couple of the stories, because of them being on recent tv programmes, it was still excellent to hear them again. You won’t need to be ill to enjoy these
Offering. Well read, beautifully craft by the Queen of Crime. Can’t recommend them highly enough.

Fantastic find!

I really enjoyed this, the narrator was excellent, very pleasant voice and well suited to the stories. Some of these are lesser known Christie stories and some are only indirectly related to the supernatural - but all are enjoyable.

Loved every story

Fenella Woolgar is an excellent narrator and really brought the stories to life. I love Agatha Christie, it was her novels that got me into reading books instead of comics, many years ago.

Variable

Some of these were old stories well known through the the media of books, television or radio, some were completely new to me. Some were very good some were meh! Audible has not bothered to show the titles in the Chapters so there would be no way to find a specific one if you wanted to which is irritating.

Love Agatha but …

For some reason it wasn’t my favourite one. Not sure if that was because I heard some of the stories with different narratives or maybe that some of them were very easy to predict after first 10min. Still if you are just starting with Mrs C books they will be satisfying enough. My appetite is much bigger.

Not her best by a long shot

Perhaps I have read too many Christie novels and thoroughly enjoyed the movies but somehow, her short stories just don't do anything for me. They might however, please you and as I barely managed two tales before giving up, then please don't take any notice of me!!

Outstanding

I had no idea Agatha Christie wrote such a variety of stories. These are beautifully dated and completely engaging. And the narrator is just perfect: she has a great range for characterisation but maintains the sense that this is how the stories would have originally been told. Highly recommended.

Fabulous Narrator

I thoroughly enjoyed this selection.perfect for listening to in bed as always easy to pick up if you fall asleep, which I do a lot!
Fenella Wolgar is definitely one of the best narrators I’ve heard.
Normally I avoid women narrators as they are invariably a bit rubbish.
Being a woman I feel I can say that. She is utterly superb. I shall be looking out for her when choosing my next listen

Not Agatha Christie

I find it very hard to believe Agatha Christie wrote this drivel, terrible stuff. If she did write it I can only think it was written in particular low point of her life
