Olivia McAfee knows what it feels like to start over. Her picture-perfect life—living in Boston, married to a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon, raising their beautiful son, Asher—was upended when her husband revealed a darker side. She never imagined that she would end up back in her sleepy New Hampshire hometown, living in the house she grew up in and taking over her father’s beekeeping business. Publisher's Summary
Katherine wouldn't have believed it if she hadn't found the letter....
In the summer of 1905, Katherine Arthur's mother arrives on her doorstep, dying, forcing her to relive a past she wanted to forget. When Katherine was young, the Arthur family had been affluent city dwellers until shame sent them running for the prairie, into the unknown. Taking her family, including young Katherine, to live off the land was the last thing Jeanie Arthur had wanted, but she would do her best to make a go of it. For Jeanie's husband, Frank, it had been a world of opportunity. Dreaming, lazy Frank. But it was a society of uncertainty - a domain of natural disasters, temptation, hatred, even death.
Ten-year-old Katherine had loved her mother fiercely, put her trust in her completely, but when there was no other choice, and Jeanie resorted to extreme measures on the prairie to save her family, she tore Katherine's world apart. Now, 17 years later, and far from the homestead, Katherine has found the truth - she has discovered the last letter. After years of anger, can Katherine find it in her heart to understand why her mother made the decisions that changed them all? Can she forgive and finally begin to heal before it's too late?

I enjoyed the story. The characters were brought to life. The emotional roller coaster was at times to hard to listen to but you had to know what was going to happen. I was sad for it to end. Thank you for writing.

In 1929, Katya is 16 years old, surrounded by family and in love with the boy next door. When Stalin’s activists arrive in her village, it’s just a few, a little pressure to join the collective. Resistance has a price, and as desperate hunger grips the countryside, survival seems more a dream than a possibility. But, even in the darkest times, love beckons. Ever wondered what it might be like to be a mail order bride? Or the groom, already married to a woman he's never laid eyes on? On the Canadian prairies in 1886, having a mail order romance wasn't unusual. Noah Ferguson desperately needed help on his farm. Annie Tompkins knew she couldn't go on working in Lazenby's cotton mill. So she'd been a little less than honest in her letters, was that really so terrible?

Story
Although Everett Cline can hardly keep up with the demands of his homestead, he won't humiliate himself by looking for a helpmate ever again--not after being jilted by three mail-order brides. When a well-meaning neighbor goes behind his back to bring yet another mail-order bride to town, he has good reason to doubt it will work, especially after getting a glimpse at the woman in question. She's the prettiest woman he's ever seen, and it's just not possible she's there to marry a simple homesteader like him.

Story
In 1929, Katya is 16 years old, surrounded by family and in love with the boy next door. When Stalin’s activists arrive in her village, it’s just a few, a little pressure to join the collective. But soon neighbors disappear, those who speak out are never seen again and every new day is uncertain. Resistance has a price, and as desperate hunger grips the countryside, survival seems more a dream than a possibility. But, even in the darkest times, love beckons. Seventy years later, a young widow discovers her grandmother’s journal.

Story
Ever wondered what it might be like to be a mail order bride? Or the groom, already married to a woman he's never laid eyes on? On the Canadian prairies in 1886, having a mail order romance wasn't unusual. Noah Ferguson desperately needed help on his farm. Annie Tompkins knew she couldn't go on working in Lazenby's cotton mill. So she'd been a little less than honest in her letters, was that really so terrible?
