Publisher's Summary

The Last Don is Mario Puzo at his finest - a masterful saga of the last great American crime family, the Clericuzios, and their powerful reach into Hollywood and Las Vegas.

Domenico Clericuzio is a wise and ruthless man who, in his old age, is determined to create a life free from criminal activities for his grandchildren. But as he strives to establish his heirs in legitimate society, secrets from his family's past spark a vicious and bloody war between cousins....

Too much Hollywood

Much like The Godfather meandering off into the minutiae of Johnny Fontaine this one is padded out with so much Hollywood I almost forgot it was about a Son. Unlike The Godfather the rest just didn't do it for me.

The Godfather Light!

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this book and flew through it as it was so entertaining. The characters are though rather shallow and one dimensional and at times it did remind me of an American TV mini-series!
But maybe I'm shallow too, as I loved it!

The lost don

This is a mixed story nothing to do with the godfather or the sicilian it's really a story about Hollywood and the ups and downs and ins and outs of the movie bussiness .

A great finish to the series

A great finish to the series of stories and much better than some would have you believe.
If you've read the others this is a must read. If not, then I suggest you start at the Godfather, persevere through the Sicilian (Godfather 2) and worth your way through to this one.
The anti-hero characters are all very believable, the situations they get placed in exciting and the story brings the whole series to a conclusion.
At almost 19 hours, this is well worth your monthly credit.

Captivating and intense

I struggled at the beginning but this may have been due to this being my first audio book experience. However, once I become familiar with this medium and the story really got going I was listening at every opportunity I could.

Classic Puzo

Classic Mario Puzo in brilliant interpretation by Joe Barrett.
Joe Barrett is so far my favourite lector. Sometimes you wonder if it's still the same person reading. Genius.
As to the story - it is your classic Puzo's italian mafia story. Great listen and very entertaining.

Better than anticipated - Joe Barrett adds class

After doing The Godfather (excellent) and The Sicilian (ok story, poor performance) I didn't know what to expect with The Last Don - but despite having no link to the earlier books, this was a great journey and Joe Barrett has such a great voice that it elevates every character he reads.
