Publisher's summary

There are reasons we fear the night. He might finally be one of them.

A goddess returned, a war between primal powers, and a prophecy to fulfill. That's a lot of crap to heap on anyone's plate, much less a former game programmer from Brooklyn. But that's exactly what Bill Ryder - gamer, geek, and legendary vampire - has to deal with.

Half his friends are missing and those that are left are mired in chaos. Sadly, Armageddon isn't about to give them a breather. The White Mother, a vile evil from the distant past, is amassing her forces to exterminate all who stand in her way - be they human, vampire, or other. Bill and his buddies need to find a way to stop her, while also keeping the other supernatural factions from tearing the world asunder.

It's finally time for Bill to master his powers, sort out his relationship woes, and figure out how to survive his date with destiny. Because if he can't get his act together, the curtain will fall and mankind will be forever plunged into everlasting darkness.

The Last Coven is the grand finale of the best-selling Tome of Bill saga, an urban fantasy series with a nasty overbite. If you like gory fight scenes, dorky humor, and Bigfoot-sized action, then you'll love Rick Gualtieri's latest installment in this kick-butt vampire series for the 21st century adult.

I Guess It Got Better

Well, I made it through all 8 books. The plotline is actually really good. The character development got a little better after the first 4 books. The character development never really got any better, although Sally became a little better rounded as we learned some of her history. My biggest problem with the series is that even through 8 books, this is still one string of sex jokes with breaks for action. I felt like James so often, having to look over the immature attitudes of perpetual 23 year olds to get to the meat of the story. Bill doesn't really get any more likable as we get to the end. Gam is still the highlight of the book.
If you made it through the first four books, you should probably make it through the last 4. The plot is really good. The execution, well, it leaves something to be desired.

tome of bill is over but I hated the ending

Bill made vampires cool again and I loved all the vamps but the ending ruined the whole series for me. Making everyone we met and everything that happened pointless. Shit ending wish I never got this book. I'm requesting a refund I hated the ending so much.

But the performance was great of the voice actor.

A Tale Told Over Coffee.

The voice of the narrator and the writing complimented each other. It was if I was setting in the breakroom, and some coworker were telling me about their day, if their day included magic and vampires.

Bad Ending

Loved the whole series, but this ending left a lot to be desired? Kinda spoiled the whole thing for me.

Hilarious and fun wrap up

Ricky G provides a great finish to this series. I have preached the Tao of Bill for years. This series makes you laugh, care and us an all around great group of books!

It is "more than meets the eye."

A fine piece of comedic literature for the archive

This book brings about the conclusion to one of my favorite book series from one of my favorite authors. This journey has been a tremendous amount of fun and the culminating book that is The Last Coven was a fantastic conclusion.

For those who have read the series, you know just what to expect from this entry. Bringing me back to my high school days of playing DnD with friends, this book tied up all of the loose ends from the first seven (10 if you include the three .5 entries) books. Bill comes to terms with Dr. Death, Sheila and Bill work towards their specific roles in the prophecy, Sally is Sally, and Gan continues to obsess over Bill.

The battle scenes described throughout the book reminded me of scenes I encountered in Diablo 2/3. I could easily picture mages and other creatures fighting during a “dungeon crawl” as being acted out within each game.

We got to witness some references to ancient gods in this book which made me nostalgic for authors like Lovecraft. We also became, if not already so, intimately familiar with the descriptive scent of Grolg, The Big C, and Turd.

The only question I have? Why didn’t Bill start off a chain reaction with the Johabich by repeatedly yelling “mother”? What better way to distract them?

Chris did a fantastic job, as usual, with his narration. Rick really has outdone himself with this entry and re-affirmed why he is and will remain one of my top 5 favorite authors. Well done, good sir. Well done indeed. For Team TW!

Super disappointed

Bill is one of my favorites but this book is repetitive and gets stuck in the weeds over and over. I couldn't finish it which is a bummer because it may be the last in this series.

above average as a series but below for the book

As the end of the story this book was much like the rest of the series, mainly filler. I can't say this wasn't fun because there was enough good to outweigh the bland filler. The characters were many and diverse, the action was frequent and explicit, and the story was suitably epic. The problem is the constant repetition, filler and dumb decisions. I feel this could have been better with either a little more story, shorter books, or fewer books.
